Rep points to you, Lee. I like the idea, and the way you included a common item from a local store to keep costs down. For a beginner like me, that's important, especially when explaining to the other half, why I need to spend the money:) Plus, I have a Harbor freight next town over, and a 15% off coupon:D I was looking at a vacumn unit from woodcraft, but I'll wait and see how this goes.

I can't find that press off Harbor Freight's site, Lee.

thanks Dave,we thought about and even built our own press the problem was it was going to be just to much money . The harbor freight press is inexpensive and also works great. the springs inside the top half of the plate give even pressure though out the jig . Freezer wrap paper ,then the veneers, then more freezer wrap and you jack the the fixture down till the springs compress your done easy as that, know guessing,prefect Evey time , simple but effective works the same every time you use it. Glues that we recommend,we found the best glue for these was the west system ,followed
by a polythene glue like gorilla glue, we used Elmer's brand about 30% less money, and on a few occasions we used tite bond wood glue this worked fine but what your looking for when the glue dries is no warp-age when you un clamp and let sit overnight.
The west system won hands down.After the veneers come out then you rim them and sand the edges square,see the photo we have some stacked in the front .At this point we use our a blade and jig producing great results every time.we will post pricing this evening after my partner and i discuss this and see where we stand. Joey, I couldn't find the press either. It is not on their web site however the local store should have it or can order it. The part number is: 1666 A-Frame press.
Dave, I tried the vacuum press and all I got was warped veneers and frustration.

I just came from my Harbor Freight store. I picked up the 1666 a-frame press for $39.99. I live in Iowa so they do have them. I see why Lee does not want have to ship the press as it weighs around 56 lbs.

The problem is the Horrible Fright bottle jacks are so inconsistent. Although most will pump up to pressure, they don't hold it long without bleeding off. I have a 20 ton H/F press that I use but I have to pump pressure back onto it about every half hour. I use West Systems epoxy and it must be clamped for some time. If you get a good one it is great but if not it is nearly useless for something that needs pressure maintained.

upgrade the jack bottle? Or do all jacks of this style not hold pressure for long periods Even name brands?

I would certainly imagine that there are better jacks although I'm no expert. I would imagine that a name brand may be fairly expensive, at least certainly more than H/F. Although Horrible Fright stores are my favorite for many items, exactly as this one, you still need to make your purchases with open eyes and not just assume that what you are getting is exactly what you are expecting.

I know that if the bottle is turned side ways it cant work tried tried it to straighten some steel on a tractor. I wonder if you redesign it for an air bag like on guy was doing about 6 months ago that should hold pressure for along time but theres those they cost again with more fabrication.

I like what I see so far foundation\ platform looks solid a few more tweaks and I thinks it s close to excellent so far.

Can't find the Harbor Freight Press

I bought one of your corian presses the other day. I went to Harbor Freight here in Portland, OR today with no luck. They have the bigger shop floor models starting at around $110. Has anybody out there had any luck finding this $40 benchtop press or another cheap small press? I did check Grizzly, but they are the bigger models with $39 shipping.

I have the larger 20 ton press that I bought 5 or 6 years ago. There are 3 stores in the Cincinnati area. The one I usually go to has had them in the past as I have seen them. I don't know if they have any at the moment as I haven't been there in a month or so. They used to send me coupons for 10, 15 or 20% off but I haven't received one in a couple of years. I would like to get another of those little 7X10 mini-lathes if I can snag a coupon.

Yes, that was Bubsbug. I wonder what happened to him. He was making laminated shafts. Those pancake air shocks would be the nut. If you can get a normal hyd. jack that held pressure it would still be good. That's how I've been pressing my veneers for a number of years but I have a 20 ton stand alone H/F press. It would work great if it just held the pressure for sustained periods.

I get the emails too, but They still send Me those flyers through the mail. The last 2 coupons were for 15% off. I looked through 3 past flyers, and didn't see the one mentioned here, although I have seen them before, but the only presses I saw in the last three flyers were a 12ton and a 20ton, but even the 12 ton was 119 bucks and that was on sale I think. The 20ton was around 189. I guess they were floor models. They only showed a picture of one of them though.
