I received a phone call from his son asking about photos of his father. Vern's house was robbed after he died, and among the missing items were his cues and his photo albums. His son would only like to see some old (or new) photos of his dad. He has very few memories of his father to hold onto. Please let me know if you have anything about Vern. Thanks

I hate people who steal.

What would you do to the robbers if you found out who they were?

Sure hope someone can help out with the pictures.

6 months after I opened my first pool room, it got broken into. They used a hammer and pry bar to rip the hinges off the cash boxes on the 6 bar tables. Broke into 15 video games. They didnt get much cash, but I was furious. I picked up a chair and flung it across the room. I honestly believe if I had walked in on them, I would have killed someone.

Hope they find some pictures of Vernon.

I had two

I had two of the young Vernon and I emailed them to his son.
I have more of older Vernon, but they are the ones I got from Diana Hoppe and she said she would provide those for Vern's son.

Thanks Freddie. It's funny, I only remember the young Vernon. When I saw him at the HOF banquet I didn't even recognize him. He was a handsome young guy (much better looking than "Handsome Danny"), and a helluva pool player.

jay, did you an Vernon play???? more important,, did you see him make those prop shots everone talks about?????? sounds like someone in the know to take cues and pictures.. what thief would want pictures?????????? veron didnt like them!!!!!

Me play Vernon, PLEASE! You have me confused with a player! But thanks for the compliment. :)

P.S. I did see Vernon gaff a few people. He had another cross side bank that was a beauty. And he could squeeze a long rail bank frozen to the end rail, half a diamond out, and the cue ball also half a diamond off the side rail, near the side pocket. Try that shot sometime, when you have all day.

It's very gracious of you guys & gals to help Vernon's son out.

For prosperities sake, could the photos be posted here? I sure love to look at photos of pool's masters, past & present.

this makes me sick... I mean come on, picture albums???? like the cues were not enough? What in the hell would the thieves want with picture albums. BTW thieves are the lowest of the lowest of the low.

What a sad story. I HATE thieves!!! They should die and rot in hell.

That's one of the reasons I always favor having an alarm system in my home, and a cocked and locked .45 on my hip.

only photo I have.....

I sent seven, or eight 8x10's of this shot to Vernon after the Derby. This was 2007.

The old fellow in the background was another 'player' I hear....

Jay....what was his name? I can't seem to remember.

( I DID get a couple of them autographed by both Vernon, and Buddy)

He looks like some kind of predator

He looks very intimidating in the first photo... and kinda like someones nice 'ol grandpa in the next. I bet he was something to behold

This was taken at Diamond Billiard Club in Chattanooga, TN. Vernon would always come to the Great Southern Billiard Tour events whenever we had an event that was close.
He was a great player that I always admired. It was a sad loss to the pool community. He will always be remembered as one of the best hustlers of all time.

Shannon, Vernon was a friend of mine and often I was with him at Diamonds. When he and I would get together for breakfast or lunch and talk about pool he would tell me to ask you about a "schooling" he gave you one time. What was he talking about?
