Well, here we go ! Never before seen onepocket from 17 years ago!!! These matches are brought to you by sappo from the onepocket.org site. He shipped the VHS tapes to me and I converted them over to be able to upload to Vimeo. Since youtube has a 15 min restriction (unless you get lucky and the remove it), I uploaded to Vimeo so they can be shown in their entirety. These VHS tapes were from the owner of the Billiard Playground, who taped some of the matches when the US Open was held there, in Kalamazoo, MI.

For some unknown reason, there is no audio on the tapes. As far as the quality, keep in mind these were taken with 17-20 year old technology as far as camcorders, plus you got the tape degradation from 17 years of sitting around, the conversion from tape to digital format and the uploading to Vimeo. Considering all of that, these matches are perfectly fine to get to watch some great onepocket from our players of almost 2 decades ago.

The tournament details: (thanks to Mark Griffin for the details, maybe more to come)
Aug 25-28th at Billiards Playground in Kalamazoo, MI.
Grady was the Tournament Director. A article mentions Ed Hall was the owner, but Matt Rosendahl was heavily involved.
$100 entry
39 player field
$10,200 in prize money
Billy Incardona was the winners bracket winner and came in 2nd to Joyner.
1st -Cliff Joyner $2,800
2nd -Billy Incardona ($2,000)
3rd -Willie Munson ($1,500)
4th -Grady Mathews ($1,000)
5-6th -Ritchie Richeson $500
5-6th -Cornbread Red $500
===========================================
All of the matches will be grouped together in a album on my Vimeo site. You can get to the album here

For our 2nd matchup, we got the infamous Bugs Rucker playing Dean Moore. Bugs, as you know, was one of the best bank pool players that ever lived. I haven't watched it yet, but as I was editing it and finding the end, I saw him bank the last 2 balls in to win the match. He did so with incredible ease. Can't wait to see where he was at with his game in that time period.

edit: i found it, nm.

Watching Bugs play is a TREAT. He has a certain aggressiveness and accuracy to his 1p game that I find mesmerizing. Almost like throwing a hunk of meat into a school of piranha.

Hmmm.. maybe you accessed the second I posted it? I realized I still had a link to Jack Cooney match, because of some copy and paste but fixed it right away.

I haven't seen hardly any of the matches yet...funny you spend hours and hours working on them, but you don't actually get to relax and sit back and enjoy them:smile: But damnit I'm going to tonight.

Bugs is so laid back, he just shuffles around the table like ho hum..so lackadaisical.... but then all the sudden he leans down and banks the ball with beautiful speed and accuracy. On those last 2 shots of the match, which I just happened to see.. the first I knew he was going to make.. that was his kind of shot.. in fact I'm very good at that shot now. But the 2nd one, he just leaned down and tapped it and it rolled right in at pocket speed.. and that shot was a lot tougher then the one before it, because of the speed he hit it at and the distance from the 1st rail.

I can't wait to watch it, actually:smile:

Wait until you see Billy Incardona and Cliff Joyner go at it. Now those are going to be a treat. They were both playing at the top of their games and it was great. Onepocket at it's highest level.... coming up! (Sorry, those will be posted last.. semi's and finals)

LoL

I literally LOL'ed when I was watching the Jack Cooney Bruce Perry match and a surprise pops up at 20 min 37 secs into the video. Very short, but very funny...

I Feel "Rick Rolled" lol

oh crap.. what did I miss? there was some parts where someone taped over it, it was random. I try and scan thru it.. I sure hope it wasn't a non pool related money shot:smile::eek:

I lol'ed again. No its about 2 seconds of a "Rick James" look alike singing. Actually pretty funny.

Thanks

Really appreciate the video of Bugs vs Dean Moore. I had the pleasure of sitting at Bug's Table (with my wife) when Bugs was inducted into the Hall of Fame. A wonderful 2 hours I will never forget.!!!!

Thanks for posting these matches and thanks also to sappo and the room owner who taped them!!

I know the Dean Moore that Vette is referring to and unless that that guy grew a few inches and went bald that isn't him.

Must be 2 Dean Moore's in the world, whodafigured.......

well crap, that's what I get for trying to find out a little bit about a guy I hadn't heard of. My luck, I pick a Dean Moore that isn't the Dean Moore. I mean, c'mon.. how freaky is it that there is 2 Dean Moore's that play onepocket well enough to be entered into the US Open Onepocket Championships?

So I just edited it out of there all together:smile:

That's what I call a money added tournament. $3,900 in entries and $10,200 in prize money. Added money was 1.5 times the entry fee. That is wild.
