Video of Mike Surber's suspected killer!

Can some who knew Mike Surber please provide info on him so we can know a little more who we are fighting for justice for?

Was he single, married, any kids left behind?

All I saw on his justice page was that he was a casino employee, and pool and golf enthusiast.

Did any azb'ers interact with Mike? What kind of guy was he? I see he in one picture he was playing in a tourney arena with an audience so I assume he played well.

Any more info on the man whose life was cut short would be appreciated.

I'm encouraged over the renewed interest in getting justice for Mike.

Mike was single.
He was a friendly guy but slightly stand-offish to strangers and could sometimes be considered aloof, although I did not find him so. I think I would consider Mike a person whom you could call "reserved". He kept a lot of things to himself, unless you questioned him a lot. :smile:

He kept his distance from most people but was known to help a pool player down on his luck with some dough, freely given and nothing expected in return.

He gambled but to my knowledge never once took advantage of anyone (outright stealing, you know, like playing a drunk or a banger for money and not giving them any chance to win).

He was a ferocious competitor on the table. He was quiet.
He lived alone. He didn't borrow money but he had a great cue collection and loved to buy cues.

He was street smart and that is one of the things that baffles all of us. Why would he leave the pool hall with a stranger? Some people surmise that he knew the guy but I don't think he did. It's just something I don't have any basis for. I sense some other reason but can't put my finger on it. Maybe he was trying to help this stranger who had a gift of gab as I have heard from others.

I liked Mike Surber. He was a good and decent man and he played a mean game of one pocket.

I believe Mike came in third at the Derby City Classic One Pocket Tournament, one recent year...
 
Did the police ever sort out a motive? Robbery maybe?

Anything missing from his home (e.g. cue collection)?

Maybe the officer in charge of this investigation, I believe his name is Flowers, could post here (or through gulfportdoc) whatever additional info he can that may be helpful. I know, typically, there is info they keep close, but whatever they can share may prove to be helpful.

Hard to tell if it's the same guy but if I looked at the website correctly, he has been a fugitive since 1998 so that picture is probably 12 years old and his hairline could have receded.
 
Wanted Poster

If anyone can make up a "wanted Poster" with suspect's picture and what we know of him, I will make copies and post at all of the truck stops on I-10 from Phoenix to Los Angeles. If others can take resposibility for their section of country based on their residence or their travels, we could then set up a HQ. location where we could have a map of the USA with stick pins in all of the covered sections o the country. I think it also a good idea to extend this effort into Canada. I know we have some fellow AZer's who post from Canada.

We would need a good Photoshop person who knows how to get the most out of a small digital picture like these.

Maybe make one of those WANTED TYPE POSTERS with the border to draw attention etc...

I would assume that we would want the largest digital photo that would still be CLEAR. If we cannot get a "blown-up" photo of this person then perhaps we can have a few different pictures laid out on the top half of a sheet of paper. OVERALL, SIZE WOULD BE 8 1/2 X 11 . The bottom half could be left for laying out the type.

I will volunteer to set the type so that it is readable and contains the important information. I would then make the item available as a PDF file for anyone to print at their local Kinko's or their own personal color printer.

The suspect's forehead is high, and his nostril area is a little wider. The eyes are more "inviting", and slightly wider set.

This is a good site from Florida. If anyone's state has a similar site, please let us know.

Larry, I'll call Mike's brother to see if he'd like to help with the posters. But as Joey said, the sheer volume of posters we'd need would make it more practicable to construct an electronic wanted poster, so that people could download it for themselves: truck stops, poolrooms, taverns, etc.

Great approach. I have a high quality HP color printer and would happily print off enough copies to cover the I-10 corridor from Phoenix to Los Angeles. I would also volunteer to maintain a large map of the US & Canada, posting stick pins where covered. As daunting a task as this may appear, with enough AZer's putting up wanted posters at truck stops we could get it done.

I just have a hunch that this guy is a "long hauler" either a driver or a co-pilot. The way he is dressed looks like he recently showered and put on fresh clothes, possibly at a truck stop offering shower facilities. Someone else posted that his shirt looked suspicios, as if he just bought it and put it on before ironing out the package wrinkles, probably same with the pants?

Knowing he had a way (his truck) to get out of town fast, robbery could have been the motive? If so, a question it begs, is, why did he need the money? Did he go broke casino gambling or did he need to score some drugs?

I leave for Los Angeles on the 16th of December so will need wanted poster asap. I make this trip frequently, so can do it when posters are available.
Keep in mind, many a wanted man was caught in the days of the old west via wanted posters tacked to telegraph poles.

Another idea,... let's rent a billboard. If every AZer made some contribution, large or small, we could select an area most likely to draw maximum attention.

Mike Surber

I, like everyone here would like to help catch this person.
I just went to Floridas criminal site and looked at a lot of pictures probably the same as evryone else.
It became clear to me that this is a huge undertaking and that without some guidance, a lot of it will be wasted time looking at the same pictures.
My suggestion would be to start a list of volunteers and each of them a different letter of a last name to search through. Once they have completed that letter give them another if they wish.
It is probably a good idea to do the surrounding states first and then branch out. If anyone has completed a search please let the person keeping track know and they can eliminate that for now.
There are some discrepancies I noticed in the search engine. I put in male white and some obviously black men also came up and a lot of Hispanic, making me wonder if it is possible to miss this guy because someone made a mistake and put him in as another race? Also he may have gained or lost some weight since the picture was taken as some of them are obviously 15 or more years old.
I think to be safe we should
search all nationalities and also I think this guy could be older than we think.
I realize it is adding to the possibilities but I would hate to miss this guy by putting in 35 to 45 and he is 56 and looks younger.
If I have missed some information and this is not necessary please let me know It won't be the first time, I am just trying to make sure we get him.
Also I am not sure of the legal issues of putting someones picture on here in connection with this?
I could care less about what a criminal thinks but I would not want someone to get sued trying to help .

Eezbank, neither of these are the guy. I really appreciate your posting these. The guy has dark eyes, presumably brown. There again, it was in tavern lighting, so everything looks a little darker. Yes I could definitely identify the suspect, as could several other guys.

Have they tried to digitally enhance the suspects image? There are several big truck stops where I live in Wi, I would put up posters.

Hey doc..I watched all the video's and dont know if anybody else brought this up..but noticed he shot pool right handed..smoked....holding his cig in left hand and drunk beer....did anybody catch what kind of cigs or beers ? We are creatures of habit....Just throwing this out there.

Distribute the photo to Jail in the US

Just a thought but if there is such a thing as a list of city and county jails in each state as well as state and federal prisons, maybe someone could distribute photos to them and see if one of the jailers can recognize him.

Not sure if that is possible but just trying to put something out there to help.

It would be nice if we had an email address to send to the jailers of state prisons to show these pics to them, if only in a few southern states.

If you are wondering how safe you are, just go to America's Most Wanted Site and look at all of the murders that go unsolved and then just look at all of the fugitives that are still on the loose. It seems like they're everywhere.

This is the best pics I have seen to date.

Does anyone think that this individual has a "slope" to his head, you know not square and more like a ski slope than round or square?
