Video of Mike Surber's suspected killer!

I did a quick scan of the videos. These are the only frames that I find usable. Hope this comes out better.

Those are really good. If you try to blow them up you don't gain much. They end up with a ton of distortion.

I can't believe no one has fingered this guy yet with these kind of pictures. Maybe he's in jail on some other charge. It happens often. Johnnyt

Hey doc..I watched all the video's and dont know if anybody else brought this up..but noticed he shot pool right handed..smoked....holding his cig in left hand and drunk beer....did anybody catch what kind of cigs or beers ? We are creatures of habit....Just throwing this out there.
Don't know what kind of smokes. He drank domestic beer out long neck bottles, usually holding the beer in his right hand while keeping his left hand in his trouser's pocket.

He played pool right handed, and he uses an unusual feet-together stance, while bending forward at the waist.

At the beginning of the first video, the height of the top of the lettering on the front door is exactly 5' 6". So I'm guessing the suspect is right at 5' 8" tall, 5' 9" tops.

Does anyone think that this individual has a "slope" to his head, you know not square and more like a ski slope than round or square?
I think so too, Joey. He has a high forehead and a receding hairline, which combine to accentuate the slope of his forehead.

Of course older pictures of him might not have him with a receding hairline.

The way he seems to be caring himself an his attire it seem that he thinks of himself as a ladies man. I hope someone checked the gals there an places around. Its a shot.

Mike Surber

Who is the guy in the dark shirt and hat? He goes behind the bar and is working the cash register. He talks to the guy and then the guy is coming in the bar part with Mike and he is behind the bar ? Did he introduce them?
Or did Mike already know this guy and paid his tab after his card came up phoney?

The guy in the dark shirt and ball cap is the owner of Skeeter's. In the 2nd vid he told the suspect that the credit card was no good. I believe the guy tried to use a second card, but he eventually begrudgingly simply paid in cash. I think his bar tab was only $11.00.

The suspect had approached Mike while Mike and a friend were playing on a 9' table. He indicated that he might like to gamble with Mike, but when he got a load of how good Mike played, the suspect backed out.

When he and Mike (in the white polo shirt) were at the bar, presumably that's when the suspect told Mike that he was part owner in an Atlanta recording studio, and that he was visiting Gulfport to scout locations for another studio.

Later the suspect asked Mike if he'd show him around town and the casinos a little bit to help his search. I assume by that point that the suspect figured Mike had some money on him. When they left together (it's on the end of the 3rd video) that was the last time anyone saw Mike alive.

Video 3

Didn't notice much in this video but the suspect does like to put on his sunglasses as soon as he hits the sunlight, using both hands. Nothing special about that.

I did also notice that the guy didn't have that much of a pot belly. He did have a long upper torso as compared to his lower part of his body (short legs as compared to lengthy chest.)

I also noticed that Mike walked very confidently ahead of this guy never looking back to see what the suspect was doing. This behavior by Mike is kind of bewildering to me because the Mike I knew was cautious. The suspect must be an incredibly persuasive person.

Does anyone know who the guy was that was playing pool with the suspect? He must have had several conversations with the suspect and might have some additional clues.

No, he was just an in-and-out customer. I think the suspect was sizing him up. He probably figured that the guy didn't have enough dough on him to fool with. The customer will never know how lucky he was...

I'd like to publicly than Eezbank for putting a lot of his own time in helping here. He's sent me many photos that he's gleaned from various state's DOC sites. I really appreciate your help, Eezbank!

We're probably going to be asking for volunteers to look at certain pertinent websites to help identify this suspect by matching his general desription, then notifying we who have seen the guy. There will probably be other ways y'all can help too.

We will be making up an downloadable poster for anyone's use. From that we'll make paper posters to send to many applicable people in corrections, or law enforcement.

If you like, you can Email me at gulfportdoc@yahoo.com

Thanks, folks! ~Doc

bump to keep this up front where it belongs.

let us know, gulfportdoc, how we might help.

if this guy has an affinity for playing pool, though his game didn't look too good, maybe posting flyers in pool rooms in whatever states you might consider to be 'hot zones', where he might still be.

it could be that he thinks of a pool halls that serve alcohol as places that are productive to find victims. this assumes he is still on the prowl looking for marks. alternatively, could be he's laying low now.

best,

There's no question about this m.o., Brian. He's a predator, so he'd naturally look in places where people are a little looser with their money, and also when their guards are down.

This guy is very cunning, but I don't think he's overly bright. He may have altered his appearance, but I think he'll continue to ply his crimes.

When we get the poster ready, we'll send everyone a link, and the paper posters will go out to various corrections agencies.

Thanks~ Doc

If you have an enhanced photo of this guy-- I will gladly help to make posters with the reward info and will spread it here starting in Houston

We need to keep this thread fresh!!
