Viking Tour

Just got off the phone with two of the top 10 American players and they both strongly agree that something must be done. One of the two is considered by many to be the best American player he said "soon there will be no tourney's for the open level player to play in". And this is what people don't understand........BY LAW........... IT IS JUST AS WRONG TO DICRIMINATE AGAINST SOMEONE FOR THEIR ABILITY AS IT IS FOR THEIR SKIN COLOR!!!!!!!!! IN OTHER WORDS WHEN 4 BLACK MEN BROUGHT A LAWSUIT AGAINST DENNY'S FOR NOT SERVING THEM, THE SAME COULD BE DONE FOR DISCRIMINATING AGAINST ABILITY..........AND FOR THE LAST TIME, I AM NOT A PROFESSIONAL POOL PLAYER!!!!!!!!!!!! Do not beleive those signs in buisnesses that say "we have the right to refuse anyone" because it's not true my friends. You cannot refuse people just because you want to.

4 black men in Denny's? Surely you are mistaken. I think black people know that Denny's does not serve them.

Pool room owners owe the pro's nothing, they are going to promote what makes them money. And right now its the amateurs. These room owners and sponcers are doing everything they can just to keep the doors open.It has nothing to do with pro's or the amatures. Its about keeping the money flow.

Shannon Daulton is having a nice 10k added tourney coming up....but you gotta play real good to win....or real Lucky ;)

this is the best thing that could happen for us non-pro players. we need a tour for us. ive spent my hard earned money in tour stops just for a chance to play b.white, nevel, daulton and others knowing well i don't have a shot in hell of winning the kind of money like at breaker's. maybe we should all quit work and play pool for a living then we'll know the flip side?????????

Shannons 10 G added is great but someone put up 10 G and that means to break even they haft cover the 10 G +++ .Right now with the economy upside down thats tuff to do anywhere.I wish all the promotors the best of luck and I hope that players like B.White get a break and are able to compete for a payout that pays the bills and sum.I've worked 19 years in this industrie and have not seen any change worth bragging about. Its getting worse.

Brian, have you completely lost your mind. A private membership based organization may refuse membership to anyone it chooses for any reason it chooses. You can verify this by trying to become a BAR association member in your local state.

The Viking Tour DOES NOT discrimintae against anyone for their race, color, creed, sex or age. We do not even discriminate anyone for their ability. The Viking Tour has several membership categories which appeal to all skill levels and anyone is welcome to join the Viking Tours in the appropriate category for their skill level.

Go have a few brews and chill. Heck, I'll go have a few for ya. Mj

Brian, it is funny how history tends to repeat itself. Now I wasn't on the in at the time this happend but here is how it looked to me and others. Of course, everything below is open to speculation, correction and ctitisms but it is my profession opinion as a promoter. Mj

Years ago a guy named Don Mackey got his shit together pretty good and promoted many PRO events through the PBT. It appeard that a few players were greedy and jelous so they whent out and started something called the PCA? to compete with him. This was a HUGE error on the Pros part because it divided a strong organization that was already on track to grow our sport even larger. (This has been happening again with Pros becoming TD's/Promoters and it is a HUGE mistake again.) You my friend have been a culperit in this type of behavior (jelousy) and furthered it by supporting other tours that have popped up over the last few years. From my end the market for open events is way too saturated so I choose not to fight by adding to the confusion but to overwhelm my competitors by creating a structured system that they can not compete with. My longterm business plan is to help them realize they are aiding in the destruction of open events so they believe they should not be in that market and then bring in the new Open/Pro system for them to participate in so they can make a healthy living playing the sport we love and which they are true professionals in. Only when we are all on the same track as a system like ATS (http://vikingcue.com/pages/9ball/051408b.html) is structured to be will our sport in the pro arena picking up momentum and heading into a bright future.

Just my professional opinion.

the bottom line is that running a pool tour is the same as running a business. there are 10x more amateurs than pros so ofcourse they are gonna have larger fields...take the viking amateur knoxville tourney for example. the room owners put up money and the tour directors responsibility is to bring in players so that the room owner can make money on food and drink sales. its the same thing as driving a business by getting new clients. as far as who is eligible, well that is something the tourney director*should decide by a fair set of guidelines.

You are right on the money here...

MJ is doing what the others are talking about. He had drafted a set of rules or should I say guidelines for the tourneys, and gotten outside sponsers to support pool. It is only a matter of time before he makes the open and Pro events a three tiered system for a flow from am,open, and pro. I believe it is what is needed to bring pool to the public and a way of entertainment and enjoyment for all players. It takes the first step to start the journey. It is up to all of us that care about cuesports to make this happen. MJ's system has already been copied and used. It is a system that works. Lets make it about all players and not just about me, me, me. Together we are one voice.

Mike you are doing some great things but Don Mackey is a thief, and a liar. Keep doing your thing, but do not use Don " I will run away with the money" Mackey as a model

The Viking 9-Ball tour has run for many years in the east. After all this time it looks like they finally have a sponsor whos willing to put up a little money so they can have $2500 added events. After all this time of the tournament director making more than the guys who finished 1st and 2nd in the tournament, you finally have a sponsor to add good money and who do you reward? The guys who have devoted much of their lives to pool, spending many hours practicing? No, you reward the amateurs with 4 straight $2500 added tourneys. You're an asset to this sport!

Brian I have always enjoyed watching you play in Athens and other areas, but to be honest, I'm tired of sinking my $$$$$ into open tournies that I have NO chance of winning! I'm sure other Amateur players feel the same way. Look on the bright side as this will bring more players into tournies, both open and amateur!!!!

Thanks Mike for the great work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When was the last Predator Tour you played in?
When was the last Blaze Tour you played in?
When was the last Joss Tour you played in?
When was the last Great Southern Billiards Tour you played in?
When was the last Seminole Pro Tour you played in?
When was the last Canadian 9ball Tour you played in?
When was the last Pechauer Tour you played in?

"AND FOR THE LAST TIME, I AM NOT A PROFESSIONAL POOL PLAYER!!!!!!!!!!!! "
So work harder.

what???????????

Last I checked, ABILITY is NOT governed by law. The last I read, it is still age, sex, religion, race and sometimes sexual orientation.

Equal rights means giving people a chance to succeed and this is what Viking is doing for the amateurs.

Brian, you should be thankful for your "A" level playing ability and move on. Most any amateur player including myself would love to play like you.

It would be my guess that 99% of the Viking's revenue is from AMATEUR players and not from the handful of "A" level players who uses custom cues.

Yes, I encourage Viking to continue to sponsor "open" tournies because if they don't the Amateur players coming along will have less to "work" for. In the long run it will mean more money to go around for everyone!!!! :D

TY, Mj

Note: We have not taken Open events off our plate but right now we are concentrating on the Amateur events. Mostly because the Amateur Nationals are coming.

Mike...You're doing an excellent job out there, but you definitely don't have the 'straight scoop' on Don Mackey (as was accurately described by huckster) or the PCA. The PCA was formed by a very prominent group of pro players, who wanted to make pro tournaments open to anyone (Mackey forced PBTA players to stay out of anything that was not his). The PCA's bylaws stated that anybody, from any organization, could play in their events. It was a great idea, and a good structure. The only problem was that Earl 'hit the lottery' on the first day, of the first event (of a planned 10 tournament tour). Want to know how much $$$ the PBTA players got, after Mackey sued RJ Reynolds, and won $800K? ZERO! He took everything himself, and (I heard) he bought a big home on a golf course.

Scott, Don Mackey sued RJ reynolds on his own behalf from his interests in his private company that they tried to take over/ put out of business.

You could look at it many ways but if I was in the same boat I would have used that money to continue the tour structure and seek additional sponsors. The PCA break-off did have an effect on the outcome no matter what side you look at it from.

To compare a part of this situatuation, imagine what would happen if a few of the top ladies started a tour to compete with the WPBA. In the short-medium term I imagine it would have devaststing effects on the ability of the ladies to have either of the tours become a success.

Please do not take any of my opinions as defending Mackey for his actions. I was just trying to offer an anology.

You sit there and complain about the "future" of pool. when the simple fact is you are complaining about your own Predicament.
If the "future" of pool is about letting people like you play in amateur events than POOL IS DEAD!
You represent what is WORST in competitors. Rather than move up and try and compete in Open/Pro Events. You would rather stay in your pond rather than go into the ocean where the bigger fish are

Wow, some of the people on here are beyond idiot. I have been winning open events for 10 years dumbass, i'm not afraid to move up. I simply want every tournament held in the U.S. to be open to all U.S. players. (Except for league events). I DONT WANT TO PLAY IN AMATEUR EVENTS, I WANT ALL EVENTS TO BE OPEN.
