I was at a pool tournament yesterday and a buddy of mine Eric had this Vintage Schon that he showed me and wants to sell it. I know absolutely NOTHING about Schon cues so I'm seeing if their are any of your Schon guys here on AZ ? It's an Ebony SIX pointer w/blue veneers with Ivory points inside the ebony points. Ivory boxes in the butt end with blue veneers through-out. The butt weight is 15.9 ! The shafts I haven't started to sort that out yet. He said he has FIVE shafts, two original, two from another Schon with the same matching stich ringwork and one from Custom cue maker Ned Morris. He told me that he thought the cue was worth $2,000+ but just wanted to get out of the game and would take a reasonable offer. Any of you Schon guys out their that can help me find out what this cue is worth. He thought he bought the cue in the early 1980's ? a few finish ding/chips in the butt end but nothing a re-finish wouldn't take care of. And a couple small nicks in the butt cap. The shafts are on the thinner side, just got a caliper and right now only have four of the shafts, he has another one still at his house ? One shaft has an Micarta Yellow ferrule as well, one an ivory ferrule and the other two ?????? Shaft #1 12.35 (3.5oz) Shaft #2 11.35 (3.7) Shaft #3 11.5 (3.2oz) & 12.15 (3.6) ! I think any offer around $1300 the owner would be happy with, plus shipping. Thks, Dan

Looks like a R15 from the 90's with optional stitch ring work. As for worth you need some more info. Weights? Shaft diameters? Ferrule materials?

Definitely an R15 and could be as early as 1987 which is about the time Schon transitioned over to CNC. As for value, I have never seen an early spliced point R15 bring $2000.00, so I think he is a bit off on his valuation.

In 98% condition, with the extra shafts my guess would be about half of his number,,,,,,,,,,,,,,not much more than half certainly.
 
If the shafts were more towards the 13mm mark and the cue was in 100% condition I could see it bringing around $900-&1000.
 
IF the cue had sharp points you could probably get in the neighborhood of a $1000 give or take if you were willing to wait on the right guy.

Those round points murder the value to the majority of people who pay a premium for old Schons. Its still a cool cue but from a dollars and cents point of view I suspect he's not going to be happy with what the market is.

I'm not even gonna tell you what I think dealer would offer as it makes even me cringe a little.
 
The small shafts and round points are the issue, like everyone else said. I like old Schons but if I were going to drop that kind of dough, I would want something I can play with (shaft around 13mm). If someone had to have that model and was willing to buy an aftermarket shaft, I would guess $900. Realistically for a quick sell $750-800 and you still will have to wait a bit.
 
As stated the lack of sharp points and slim shafts take away from the $$$. I am by no means and expert on the cue, but have been a fan of them for a long time and try and keep a little watch on them :wink: GL with the sale!

Thks for all the input guys, I did tell him I was concerned about the shafts and that I had hoped their was some MEAT still on the bone. I didn't or had no clue about the rounded points I just don't deal with these production cues. I will see what he wants to do. Thanks everybody. Dan/COLOR]
