vintage tad and gina from the 60s

I guess a lot of people were tracking the 2 cues, after the auction was pulled I asked the seller why,
his response =

" Hello purr1965. The consignor who brought it into us wants a professional to look at them. We will re-list them. we didn't sell them. -Hidden Treasures

- hiddentreasures-arizona "

After that message and after he had ended the acution I told him to contact http://www.cornerstonecustomcues.com/

Which I think was the correct thing to do, obviously had no clue what he had there.

A guy who knows nothing about cues inherits a couple of them and takes them to his local eBay consignment store. The consignment store says sure I'll sell them for you and puts them on eBay. Neither the consignor nor the store are cue people (a few of them still exist somehow) and both are quite surprised when the cues both shoot up to about 1K in the first day of the auction.

The owner now does some Google search and finds Cornerstone's web site and contacts Bill to see what it is he has and Bill tells him that he should send the cues to him for authentication. The owner gets the cues from the consignment shop sends them to Bill and Bill tells him the happy news about what he has. Bill ships the cues back to the owner who can now go relist them on eBay with the proper keywords or whatever he wants to do. Bear in mind that what he thought he was consigning was far different from what he had and now that he knows what he has he might make a far different (now informed) choice about what to do with what he has.

I don't see what anybody did wrong here. It seems to me the owner was lucky to have Googled himself out of a situation that could have cost him a few thousand dollars and he was lucky that his search resulted in his calling such a straight shooter as Bill.

Everybody is happy except us that had hopes of stealing a misIDed cue or two. I don't have to steal the Gina to be happy. It is a cue I have been searching for for a few years so on the off chance that the owner is reading this thread "I WANT TO BUY THAT GINA!!!!!!!"

It sure would have been fun at the end of those auction but that was not to be. I won't share the numbers that I was going to load in my sniper software as I'm hoping to have another shot, at least at the Gina.

Thanks

Kevin

What he meant was it was among the last 50 left, because Kevin Brewer bought all the other ones:wink:

How you doin' there Merylane?

This Gina here is the same model as my first Gina but my rings were not colored. I got mine in 1972 but it was used from the 1960's. In 1985 it was in a car of mine that was stolen. If anyone sees a Gina like this with the initials "COYT" on it, let me know. On 2nd thought, just grind off the initials and spare me further suffering.

I pretty much thought these auctions would go "viral". I've bought a few cues that were mis-labeled on ebay but the cue guys who are still involved in ebay are pretty good about figuring out most of them in the end and word gets around.

People really should do their homework before they auction valuables.

I wanted to have this cue to keep for LIFETIME! Forever or until my next eBay auction week whichever came first.

People don't need to do their homework, just consign them to me and I'll take care of everything.

I was watching these cues as well. I am sure they would have gone quite high.

I think we all dream of walking into a garage sale and buying a "bushka" for $20..........honestly if it were me, and I can only speak for myself here, I would be certain to make it right with the owner. I am not saying I would come back with 10 grand, but if it was authenticated, I would be upfront and work something out.

In this case that would have been a little difficult as the cues were offered by a pro eBay seller, not the owner.

from reading those posts it seems the cue could be the first or the 100th.

i didnt know if he had more info?

I think to get closer than Bill already has you have to put the cue in Ernie's hands (yet another reason the seller should SELL ME THAT GINA!!!!!!) and sometimes Ernie will remember and sometimes he won't. The steel shaft inserts definitely date it as one of the first 60 or so (not every cue got 2 shafts). Ernie has some memory gaps of the 1960s (as all of us that experienced them do), but he does have plenty of material left over from then. I wouldn't be surprised if a little digging in his shop would yield a few of those original 100 steel shaft inserts that never got used. I guarantee you that when Ernie learned he was going to have to use a different material for his inserts he was very anxious to start working with the new material. He is not a man to do things the "old way" just for the sake of ease.

Last time I was there he was busy fabricating a part for one of his full race motorcycles and was too busy to work on building my new lifetime player cue. When is that guy gonna grow up?

Thanks

Well, I doubt none of us will ever grow up since bikes to Ernie is like cues to us here. Anyway is there a way of contacting the owner of the vintage ginacue and offer him a price that he cannot seem to refuse?

Well the consignment store for sure wouldn't release his name and Bill seemed to think the owner was going to reconsign them. I, for one, would very much like to see at least the Gina back at auction as I think I stand a good chance of being high bidder in a fair auction. The Tad I wanted to steal and resell.

I like your todays avatar just a little bit too much. Ahhhh roses are so pretty.

Well till that day comes for the cues to be relisted. I bet your chances of landing the Gina is pretty high since you have ginacue blood flowing in your veins.

As for the rosy pictures, thats just the tip of the iceberg.

Lets stick to Ginas and not get me started on my panty fetish.

Agreed. The least he could do is put on a big gut and go bald, like most of us had the decency to do. :grin-square:

That is so funny. That gut is virtually impossible as the guy has to be forced to eat and spends 6 days a week on his feet.

Well, how about the other thing? Tell you what, let's meet over at his shop. You hold him down and I'll shave his head.

And we better bring a steak for Duchess. :grin-square:
