Last time I saw him, Dave was most definitely in Action Jackson, not only at The Playing Field, but also at Richmond's other pool room, Side Pockets!

Here's a picture of Christie and her main squeeze, a regular player on the regional tournament trail, The Playing Field's own Larry Kressel. Larry cashed in the event and went home later to rest up. A man of all games, he couldn't keep himself away too long with all the pool players in town looking like mighty fine pickings. So he decided to venture on out to a very packed house at Side Pockets where the action was plentiful and ended up staying until closing, as did JAM! :p

Congratulations to Keith on playing JAM-up (final pun in this post). Thanks for this fantastic coverage, too, JAM. Brilliant!

I love to see ...

Nice young up and coming players like Chris Futrell ...

One look at him, and you can tell he is a nice young man ...

Our sport would be lucky to have more of him ...

I, once upon a time, had the same thoughts about Gabe Owen,
and look at him now ...

Rich R. and his lovely wife Cathy who post on CCB drove in from Maryland to watch this tournament. Rich R. was snapping pictures with a professional camera, and I'm looking forward to seeing them when he posts.
JAM, it was great to see you too. We always enjoy talking to you and watching Keith play. It was a great tournament with a lot of exciting matches.

I finally got some pictures posted on the CCB, if you care to see. :D

I get a little disapointed, whenever I post pictures on the internet, because they seem to post a lot darker than they really are.
Hope you like them. :D

I also enjoyed the pics, Rich! Every time I see a pic of me shooting, I have an open bridge, strikes me as odd coz I dont think I use it 1/2 the time.

The crookit stick travels in a soft case.

Dave did die a few years ago, but before that, since he had all of those billions of bucks to begin with...he just loved to gamble his ass off on the golf course and give it back to society. I happened to be the recipient a couple of times. :D

This younger version of "Dave" kinda has that same look about him. It's what I call the look of "Easy Pickin's" and "I'm ripe to get burned". :D :p :D

WOW, Rich! Your pictures came out GREAT! I don't think they are dark at all. As a matter of fact, they are much lighter than mine. In pool rooms and other pool venues, oftentimes the setting is very dark with the only light coming from the lamps over the pool tables. Diana Hoppe told me that she has difficulties sometimes, too, with the dark rooms. InsidePOOL told Keith one time to please wear a light-colored shirt at the Glass City Open in Toledo. Reason being, when the venue itself is dark and the player wears a dark shirt, it is difficult to get a good picture.

Thanks for sharing, Rich. I really enjoy running into you guys on the tournament trail. Looking forward to seeing you at the Open, too! :)

Check out how dark my pics came out. Your same picture on the CCB link is bright and colorful. :p

Here's a shot of a railbird, Black-Balled, Dave Hunter the Dentist, and Richmond's Tall Man Jordan sweating the matches!

The railbird pulled out a boodle and wanted to bet that Chris Futrell would beat Keith for a dime. He was dead serious, too. Although Keith's nostrils were wide open at this point for a little action, we definitely did not take the bet, of course. That's how strong Chris Futrell plays, and the Virginia natives know it!

I'm wondering what's going on down there at Q-Masters today in Norfolk at the Master's tournament, beginning at noon. This is Chris Futrell's home pool room, and it would not surprise me to see him win the whole shebang!

Vagabond, he was using a soft case. I don't think it had that small compartments sewn into it. I believe it went into a fairly wide compartment.

The guy made the but himself out of Virginia Blueberry wood.

Is there anything at all in the rules regarding equipment that all cues have to fit an approved design or configuration? In golf there is...I was wondering if there's anything in the rule books about a bent/angled cue.

JAM, in this case, it was not the poolroom. My pictures look a lot brighter on my computer. They definitely look darker when posted on the internet. Maybe I'm too critical, but I have had the same problem before. It must be an internet thing.

Diane Hoppe handles the dark rooms well. Her pictures are always great.

I have to agree with IP about the light-colored shirt. My pictures of Keith on Saturday, with a dark blue shirt, were not a good as the shots I took on Sunday when Keith was wearing the light blue shirt.

Your pictures are always great. I love to see them.
Actually, we compliment each other. You always have the nice posed pictures and I like to take the pictures of the players in action.
We make a good team. :D

I believe the only rules about cues pertain to lenghth and weight. I have never seen a rule about a cue being straight.

Pool is kind of getting to be like boxing. There are so many rules and formats. At the last three World Pool Championships, the American players were not familiar with the rules BEFOREHAND, and it cost a couple of them a FOUL, which at this level could be the difference of victory and defeat.

At some venues, and I don't know which, there's a rule for the length of the jump cue. Some formats prohibit jump cues, even though the ferrule-enhanced break cues are allowed. I'm sure the pool scholars of the forum will know the right answer to your question, Drivermaker! For me, there's too many rules to keep up with at each event, i.e., winner/loser racks, conceding a match resulting in a loss, must call the 9-ball, cue-ball foul, three fouls you're out, legal break (3 balls passing the side pocket), et cetera, et cetera. :)

I can't tell you how many regular tournament players skip the players meeting, thinking they know it all, and I've seen some veterans lose a game because of not being familiar with the rules and format, i.e., Alex Pagulayan, Rodney Morris, Karen Corr, and Keith, much to my regret.

Here's a picture of Ron Zampko at the 2003 U.S. Open showing Corey Deuel his crooked stick. Ron was going through an Elvis Presley thing back then, sporting his long sideburns and mirror-lensed shades. :D

I always seem to catch Ronnie Wiseman in the background of many of my pictures for some reason, with dead aim on my camera grinning from ear to ear. He's the guy in the plaid shirt!

Congrats to Keith!! Taking one down for us "old guys" :D

I haven't heard much but I do know that they only got a little over 40 players. With the added monies, I can't believe that more guys didn't show up!

I regret not being able to go to the Master's myself, as it's only a 3-1/2-hour drive from D.C. There are MAJOR tournaments going on from now to end of September, a pool player's dream for a road trip.

The added monies is based on a 128-man field, I think, Timberly, but I may be wrong. I don't know if this $10,000 is "added," "guaranteed," or "added guaranteed."

I do remember reading this, though:

Prizefund Breakdown(Based on 128 Players):
1st: $7,500.00
2nd: $5,000.00
3rd: $3,500.00
4th: $2,500.00
5th-6th: $1,750.00
7th-8th: $1,200.00
9th-12th: $800.00
13-16th: $600.00
17th-24th: $400.00
25th-32nd: $300.00

As an aside, I heard it through the grapevine that there's an 18-year-old kid from Iowa lurking about Virginia who's snapping off quite a few players. He spotted Tony Watson the 8-ball and spanked him!
