It amazes me that such a great idea gets with so many negative comments.
John sees the value AZB gives him to showcase his products, and is willing to compensate the site for the privilige.
IF he is willing to kick some of his profits to keep the section going, why not see the value of his idea.

Starting today I will send 5% of the final value that any of my for sale items in the WFS section close at. Not including the shipping cost.
I recommend that those of you who sell here as a way to supplement your income and fund your hobby do the same. To sell on Ebay incurs fees of up to 10% these days (welcome to corrrection if I am wrong). Most of us are already paying paypal 3% and AZB is getting nothing.
This is the premier marketplace on the web for pool related items in my opinion. Whether or not you agree it's clear that this is a good place to sell stuff.
So I am volunteering to spend a portion of my sales on keeping this market place open for those of us who would like to stay in touch with the customers through direct sale ads.
You can raise your prices slightly to pass the extra cost on to the buyers or you can absorb it. In any case you should give some jelly to AZB. It doesn't have to be 5%, could be 1% or 10% whatever you feel that this place is worth to you.
This last ten days in 2011 let's give something back to Mike and Jerry. I am about to put up about $2000 worth of cases and see if I can sell them in the next week and a half. I might not get the full $2k but whatever it brings I will ship 5% of it to Mike and Jerry.
I hope some of you decide to follow and show some support for this place in a little bit more of a concrete way. Please save the flaming. If you don't want to do it then don't. If you do then do whatever you feel comfortable with.

We have so much to be thankful for this year, not the least of which is neither of us is some silly hater, posting in this thread that John's 5% voluntary AZ kick-back is somehow "not enough".

When you want to tout the products you sell as the best ever and bash "China" and those who sell Chinese made goods on the same forum then you ought to check the origin of the products you are claiming are the best ever.
Otherwise people may find you to be hypocritical and untrustworthy.

Again, since I am such a giving mood and since you can't be bothered to read the opening post;
There are two types of advertisement. One is passive like a banner ad which is intended to raise awareness of a brand or product or service. The other is a direct response ad intended to get the viewer/listener to act on the information by means of a direct and recordable contact with the advertiser.
That is what a for sale ad is. That is what this section's ads are for the most part. This is much different than a banner ad Randy. A banner ad at $450 a month is of no use to those who need to be placing direct sale ads to move their merchandise.
Now, I do think that AZB should and possibly will separate the sections so that people like you can place your private listings and not be bumped by commercial listings by professional sellers.
The fact of is Randy that you appear to be ignorant of basic business. What you would prefer to happen it seems is that the commericial sellers disappear from here so that you can pursue your half-commericial hobby pretending to be just a private seller. And it seems that you would prefer that those with knowledge of the industry would go away so that they don't call you out on your ignorant statements which, giving you the benefit of the doubt, are simply errors in knowledge rather than outright lies.
Also you would apparently love to cut AZ off from a potentially limitless amount of revenue. They only have so much space for banner ads before dilution reduces whatever value is there. But charging for listings, like Ebay, is a infinite source of revenue as there will always be people wanting to sell their goods through direct response ads. You are so shortsighted and ignorant of the wide range of reasons why a vibrant direct sales marketplace is good for consumers and sellers alike.
So if it's ok with you Chef, stick to cooking and leave the business to the pros. There will always be a place here for you to peddle your cues. Which makes me wonder anyway because as a "private" seller how come you always have so much stuff to sell?

No Brian, it's placed exactly where it needs to be. In the spot where the people who USE this section frequently can read it. The fact that a FEW people are too ignorant to simply realize what it's here for and let it ride is on them.
What I selling is RESPONSIBILITY. Those of us who spend a lot of time in THIS section of the board have a responsibility to maintain it properly if we are allowed to do so.
Once in a while we have DISCUSSIONS in this section that are related to what goes on in this section. Happens a couple times a year and it happens on every similar message board on the planet.
How about not worrying about it and letting it go?
If you and a few others hadn't CHOSEN to respond in the negative then there would have been a few positive replies and that's it. And yes I get that you are simply choosing to be the posting police and that you have had your hand slapped, unjustly in my opinion, for trying an auction format. But the fact is that this forum is facing some changes that can affect the livelihoods of many here who supplement their income or even who derive their income from sales on this forum.
Jerry's proposal to buy a banner ad is not the solution and he knows it. He and Mike are well aware that this section is one of the busiest in terms of posts and views. Views are the lifeblood of a forum's ability to sell ads. Cut those down dramatically and the attractiveness to advertisers goes down.
I am merely asking those who care about maintaining their ability to post direct sale ads to step up on their own and show some responsibility. This is the correct section to do it in, not the main forum where the majority of people are not frequent users of this section.
Also Brian, if I had put this in the main forum then it would look like I was using it as a way to troll for business. That's the last thing I need right now. My plate is overflowing with orders. I am not mentioning it in my for sale ads, not trying to guilt-trip anyone into buying from me to support AZB. I am simply taking 5% of my normal prices, not padding them to make up for it, and giving it to AZB. Other than that I don't intend to advertise it outside this thread, don't intend to make a big deal of it anywhere but here in this thread, don't intend to use it as an enticement to purchase.

FYI, every Chinese import I've had I took in trade or purchased for a friend not on AZ. I don't tell my friends what to buy! The break cue I touted was made by the Miki company. To the best of my knowledge they are made in Japan! You are now on my ignore list because you are trully ignorant!
