Wacked tournament payouts.

Well, How many players total where there? If there wasn't that many, than it could be worse, 5th/6th could have gotten a "Thanks for playing" instead.

33 players.
Still, 6 spots isn't even 25% of the field.

Like, i can totally see the Tomato Cans skipping the tournament next year.

If all the "filler" leaves, bye bye tournament.

IMHO, It's definitely too top heavy. I've always favored that the tournaments pay further down the field, min 25% up to 33%. The more people in the money usually makes for more satisfied players. I haven't seen too many winners complain when they win. It's fun to cash :wink:

Is it me or do these payouts seem kind of lopsided?

Don't get me wrong.
I am all for the winner making a decent chunk of change, but $1500 for first and $75 bucks for 5th?

I do not know the specifics of this particular tournament. But they probably did not get the number of entrants to pay out more to lower finishing players.

Hell airfare, hotel, entry, food, incidentals only 1st and 2nd covered cost.

33 players? The room owner added 1500? Must of been a 40 dollar entry fee or someone was pulling some serious GREEN FEES.???
You take the total payouts minus 1st place and get what? 1300 or so divided by 33? 40 bucks each. With 1500 added.

What was the ENTRY fee?

These payouts look more in line.

I agree, a bit top heavy. They could have done much better paying $1,000 to first.

Check this out, with the same money for the top five places: 1. $1,000 2. $650 3. $450 4. $320 5-6. $200

At least 5th/6th would almost cover cost. Or like someone else said play better.

To me it just looks like a tournament that tried to make the payout of its tournament look more impressive with a big number for 1st place. $1500 is a decent score, if they spread the money out more then all of the sudden the 1st place prize does not look so impressive and the tournament does not get to look so important when communicating the results, which are likely only normally going to mention 1st and 2nd and not mention that 5th place got the shaft.

Guaranteed NOBODY flew to this event...though they might all have been hi at some point.
I would doubt more that a couple of folks required hotel too.

I don't know, turnips are really dumb. A beet would catch it right off the bat though. I like Jay's numbers also.

Tap....Tap....Tap.....to that. I have never played in a major tourny, just the local bars where you average 10 to 15 guys with a $5 entry and nothing added. I have no opinion about the proper disbursement of available monies.....but if I was only given $5 for a 3rd place finish I would be happy.......means I only spent 35 bucks to play with some of the best....hell I probably would have ponied up 10 bucks just to watch.
