my wife and i like to go to a korean spa in little saigon, which is a vietnamese community in garden grove. the spa is great, very relaxing for 15 bucks. tonight, i went alone, as the wife was doing something else. after leaving the spa, i noticed a sign that said BILLIARDS CLUB above a storefront in the same center. so i thought why not go check it out, look for some future pigeons to gamble with,;)

so i walked in, and noticed 10 tables, all filled with older gentlemen. but as i walked in, all ten tables stopped shooting and looked at me as if i was king kong walking in. it was like they had never seen a white guy come thru the doors before. it was pretty funny, so i just sat down at a counter and checked the place out. turned out it was 10 BILLIARD TABLES, WITH NO POCKETS:confused::confused::confused::confused:

now i know fast eddie fellson played pocket billiards in the movie the hustler, and he won 12 grand. but i have no clue about this game, and i dont want to know. looks a little silly if you ask me. so i watched for about 5 minutes as these guys didnt take their eyes off me, probally thinking i was going to rob the place.

im not the sharpest card in the deck, but im not a 2 of hearts either. for the life of me i could not figure how to play that game. how to keep score, object of the game.

im a 9 ball man. i guess i will have to look for pigeons elsewhere. :):)

Those billiard rooms are all over Los Angeles in the Asian communities. Those are 9' tables and they are playing four ball billiards. I've watched them play and I've never quite understood the scoring. By the way, they are almost always gambling!

And most all of them can play a little....

Have watched it in Denver's K-town when I used to date a Korean girl. One point for two ball caroms, some play two points for three ball caroms, including opponents cue ball.

Yes, heavy action. Save your dough for the massage.

I would be surprised if you didn't know most of the following:

Game has 2 white and 2 red balls. One white is each shooter's cue ball- on usually all white and the other has a dot, to differentiate them- and the players never shoot using the other's cue ball.

Points are scored by contacting the 2 reds with your cue ball. One can't contact the other player's cue ball.

Now, the last sentence is what I am a bit fuzzy on, but I think there are variants of "contacting the other's cue ball" ...seems the harder version is no contact permitted at alll, while the easier version is no contact between the 2 white balls is permitted.

Game play is to a predetermined number of points.

The first part I caught onto pretty quickly. I was a little confused by the scoring, but I wasn't watching all that closely. They had one pool table with a 9-Ball game that I was focused on. They were playing five dollars on the five and nine. I did finally did get to play the guy who won and I couldn't beat him, but he couldn't beat me either. :)

Dennis was with me but he didn't really want to play. We weren't betting enough to interest him. And he enjoyed watching me struggle.

I went into a Vietnamese Billiard room. Of course no one spoke english:wink:
Two 9 ft billiard tables,no bed heaters. I asked bartender/manager 3 cushion,and motioned a shot?
There was a chalkboard on the wall by both tables. He pointed at the 1nearest me,motioned for a simple billiard said "Mexican" with a big grin. There were hundreds of chalk marks on that board. Walked to other table and mimic my 3 cushion motion and with a huge smile pointed at the other chalk board. There were only about 30 marks on it!

Lol. Korean spas are very family oriented. Wife never wanted to go, as nudity is the norm. After the first Time she went, she loved it. Men and women are separate. Steam, saunas, jacuzzis, showers and shaving stations. Helps me unwind after losing money playing 9 ball. :frown:

My man, what in the hell is a shaving station? I mean honestly there's too many holes in this story, first you say you went to a whorehouse with the wife, then you said you tried playing some crazy Chinese pool game, then somehow you played 9 ball and lost, and now there's a shaving station. I'm not trying to be rude here, I'm just trying to figure out how your wife OKd this and where this place even exists, never mind what in the hell a shaving station even is.

…….and then you opened your mouth and proved you are an idiot...….

Judochoke, you weren't imagining the looks you were getting either.
Pocketless billiard places are pretty tight nit groups of folks and they gamble heavy over in GG. If you want 9 ball action out there hit up Westminster Billiards near Santa Ana.
Not many pigeons, but plenty of hungry crows lol.

KP is just a troll.

I'm no expert at some of the finer points of the rules & scoring, but I think you might get 2 points for a rail first legal carom.

I have definitely see the Koreans play 3c like that but never noticed it in 4 ball.

Please note I don't speak Korean, so how in heavens name would I know!

Used to piss me off, playing the Koreans for time, getting 20-15 and by a few later game...then they come with a couple rail firsters and I am no longer winning.

I did learn a few sweet semi-natural tickies though...

I like the sound of this game. I think I could be decent at it. It sounds like a pretty basic Carom game, and much easier then 3 cushion billiards.
