If a player is not conscious of the pause then WHERE IS THE REASON/INTENT FOR THE PAUSE? I take my back swing with absolutely no intent or purpose, so why would I mention it?! You are nuts.

I haven't followed Drago, though I did see him at a MC -- quite impressive and probably a terror to play against if he gets in Hemi-steam roller mode. But, I have also seen him struggle.

My personal experience (based upon some snooker and playing with pool balls on a snooker table) is that the games require different approaches. For one, potting accuracy is paramount -- all center ball. For the other, because the pockets can be slightly more forgiving and the position plays often more eclectic, you need to be able to work the CB and OBs more and you need to be able to be all over the CB.

The fact that you think it's all center ball is ignorant at best.

A little more seriously, in my travels over the years I have had to opportunity to speak to a few folks who have taken your course. (Usually BB/league players.) I have also had the opportunity to listened to Mark Wilson give, oh, perhaps a dozen lessons, at a pool hall I used to hang out at and which he would use to give his lessons a couple tables away from mine.

Lastly, as has been beaten to death in previous discussions, transitioning from a back swing to a forward swing does not constitute "a pause." You SPF guys want to pull out the high speed camera to show some milli-second of transition where the cue doesn't move so you can jump up and down, squeal with delight, and say, "Lookie there -- he's pausing!!!" For most normal human beings who play pool that is not a true pause in the conventional sense of the word. It is bull-shee-toe.

Maybe your judgement of time isn't that great, but I'm certain that the pause on these 4 shots is much greater than a millisecond.

Thread HiJack....sorry to change subject here but who is going to the school? After the various opinions given the school and technique should be more interesting. The SPF instructors are very well organized. We look forward to your reviews next week. Have fun.

oh, good grief.

The first shot required me to precisely lay the CB down behind two balls for position, so *the whole stroke* was slow.

I don't see any pause on the next two.

The last one was a $10,000 money ball. Of course I paused. But only to savor delivering the coup de grâce :-)

In actuality, Tony, I probably shouldn't have paused like that.

At the time, I was so happy for it all to be over I wanted to punctuate the end of the match and the victory, and was thinking something along the lines of, "Who's your daddy" (but with slightly more colorful language :-). So I was shooting it with a purposeful pause and not the way I usually shoot a shot. In hindsight, that was a risk I shouldn't have taken.
