Absolutely spot on, a transition can take many forms, loop or pause.
Speaking of transitions I always admired Cicero Murphy's long pause (transition). I never got to see him except for some short video spots.
I know you have met him, but have you seen his stroke in person? Did he change his stroke as he got older?
To me it was a thing of beauty.
I can't argue with what worked for such a great player, but if I were an instructor, I can't see myself ever recommending a pause as long as Cicero's
Now one like Lou's? Pure butter, baby.
Methinks you are right, Lou has one of the best pauses I have ever seen.
It's quite manly. Never seen his old lady, but I bet she's stunning.

I made a comment about me not pausing on backswing and sent a short vid to Cornerman(hopefully it went throug) maybe he'll chime in and let me know I do pause lol. I just don't see it though
Now, there is NO DOUBT Lou has a pause(almost as long as Shanes on some shots) this is from watching the first 4 shots of Lou v Barton - didnt need to watch any more.

Lou remarked about my Revo cue....said it was butt ugly. I could turn that around on him but I'm too nice. Mitch
"What would Lou do?"
