Was Einstein Right About 6 Million Shots on a Pool Table?

Well, it seems to me that 6,000,000 is probably not the correct number. Given Einstein is the most famous theoretical physicist that ever lived and was not too shabby in math, I suspect he never actually said this unless it was an off the cuff remark made to illustrate some point at a cocktail party or some such thing.

It almost certainly wasn't something he declared to the world after running the numbers.

any estimate that's 6 Million or less would be incorrect

The original post says "over 6 Million" - so any estimate that's 6 Million or less would be incorrect.

Einstein said there were over 6 Million possible shots on a pool table, do you believe this is fact, or another example of urban legend?

6 billion people with brains you can't name five?

Can you name 10? How about 5? - out of {virtually} 6 billion people with brains you can't name five? hmmm, interesting, very, very interesting. :thumbup2:.

Virtually everyone with a brain, cj.

You mean there are over a billion people on this planet WITHOUT brains?

The Complete List of Shots/Concepts in the VEPS Series

So I guess my answer to your question is 742; although, infinity is probably a more accurate answer.

Regards,
Dave

I am proud to say my estimate of 675 shots is very close to the inestimable Dr. Dave and crew, a person and group whom I admire very much, though I doubt our methods of calculation were anything like each other's, me having to rely on my aging addled brain, instead of solid experience and a college degree in math and such like.

I wasn't going to reveal my original "675=the calculated-number-of-shots" until later in the year, say about the first of April or so. However, I drank a lot of coffee, and was bouncing up and down in my chair with a bursting bladder, and accidentally hit 'send' several weeks too soon.

I'm pretty sure I shot more than 675 last week.

I'll bet the over, I'm pretty sure I shot more than 675 last week. ;)

Even if the 675 shots were made up of 8 angles, 8 speeds, 8 tip placements(spin) and 8 distances that estimate would be low, and there's many more than 8.

Sources say pool player's brains are sold for more than attorney's

According to FOX NEWS brains are lucrative on the world market. Sources say pool player's brains are sold for more than attorney's, doctors, or even scientist's brains.......the sales pitch is "they've hardly been used". :groucho:

What better place to argue and attempt to disprove one of the brightest minds the world has ever known than a pool forum. Excuse me as I slam my face into the wall. Please... Continue.

On Monday the forum will be discussing how to reengineer the space shuttle to burn less fuel.

I use to think there were a zillion. Come to find out there's only one .It'd be a half tip pivot. I thank Stan Shuffett for that.

Nature of infinity

Born in Russia but raised in Germany, Cantor provided a stunning and instantly controversial proof that not only defined the nature of infinity, but it also revealed that multiple infinities existed, and some were larger than others.

Infinity is interesting, to say the least.

"In order to talk about infinity, we first have to find ........

I wonder if Cantor played pool, that would be an interesting discussion.

I do not believe Einstein said it at all.

Where's the proof ?
It sounds just like some of that horsedung Minnesota Fats used to lay down. And he was about the biggest blowhard that I've ever seen.
No sale....I'm not buying it. :boring2:

Einstein attempting to play pool......it would be like "riding a bike," for Albert

You're probably right, it's just funny to think about Einstein attempting to play pool......it would be like "riding a bike," for Albert.
