Was I out of line?????

Not to mention the guy just might have been picking his butt, or went to the bathroom and didn't wash up, and then picked up your cue, and got nasty butt coodies on your wrap!eeeeeeeeew:D.....

I was at my friend's house the other night shooting some pool and some other guys that I never met showed up. One of them grabbed my cue when it was his turn to play. I asked him for it back and he got all pissed off at me and says, "I don't hit that hard and I never miss the cue ball anyway". (whatever that is supposed to mean???)

Then when I left the room, one of his buddies was talking crap about me being over-protective of my cue. (I know this because my buddy told me)

So should I have just let him play with and kept on eye on him or would you guys have done the same thing.

Hi,
You are NOT out of line.I am NOT at all surprised at his response. He,instead of apologizing to you for his inappropriate act he got pissed off at you.The focuss should be on his behavior and not on you.Our culture is turning more and more of this kind of people and be prepared for some more.

Right on ...

Hey, it's your cue. Even if it's a pro, no one has the right to just grab it without asking and start shooting with it. That's very rude. IMO, the bottom line is - it's your property!

the mark. He was being disrespectful of you and your property. Don't feel bad because you wanted to take care of your property, it's yours.

Out of line? Out of line?

Trust you me, not just anybody even holds my pool cues, ever.

Nobody will care for your equipment like you would yourself.

Only if a guy I know who has a fine collection himself will I allow to use my cues.

My shooting partner, who I play all the time, will never ever touch one of my cues, and I don't like him even walking near them. He's rough on his cues...

I can understand the frustration....but other than maybe worrying that you upset your friend as a guest in his house, do you really care what someone without a little common sense and courtesy thinks?

I haven't had it happen in other than a bar or hall, but if someone grabs my cue, ( and it has happened several times ) the response usually starts with " Excuse me.....but.... ".

You got a jackass response from the guy, after that....I doubt I'd care a whit whay he thinks.

I've found that if you smack them upside the back of the head with a house cue, drop it quickly before you were seen, and say, "I guess God is trying to tell you something..." works best for me......

They usually don't touch my cue after that.. :D

tap tap tap..."who started this problem" always eliminates confusion.

Shooter777 had a cue; the other guy wanted a cue...this is America, so he took it. What else is new and why any surprise about it?

not out of line at all. I have had people grab my cues many times and starting using them.twice this has ended up with my cue getting damaged. First time I had just bought a new Espritu (not a high end but still $700) the first night I'm in the local hall girl comes over from the next table and takes my cue and gives it to her boyfriend to use. As soon as I notice it I politely ask for it back and the guy gets upset because I interruted his conversation so he tosses it on my table contacting about five balls on the table put dings all over the cue. I not so politely explained the cost(still had the receipt in my wallet) of the cue and the amount of damage he just cause. After a bit of a conversation he gave me $100 for the refinish job.
Second was at a buddies house after he got his table installed. One of his co-workers was over and asked to use my cue. I told him very nicely to be very cafefull because it is my playing cue and very valuable to me(Mike Webb cue that he no longer makes). After using the cue very carefully he leans it up against the couch and then bacause he lost the game he thows himself on the other end of the couch and the pressure of him sitting down sends my cue flying into the coffee table putting two large dings in the shaft. I have a new policy that no one uses my two man cues for any reason, but I do carry a third cue for people to use.

Not alot of money compared to many folks on here, but it is the principle of the thing.
The value of the cue is not the point. I don't care if it is a KMart blue light special. It is YOUR CUE!!!!

It is definitely the principal of the thing.
If he takes your car for a ride, without permission, it is called "Grand Theft".
IMHO, there is no difference, if he takes your cue without permission.

You wouldn't expect him to just grab your girlriend, same goes with your cue. I had a buddy that I gave permission to use my new cue.He takes a few shots and then comes up out of his next shot too high with the cue and hits the overhead light and puts a small ding in it.He was real apolegetic but the cue still was dinged.

Your spot on.....

If they insist, I'll let them use my badly damaged China cue. Then they will say that it's no good. I'll explain that it was a perfect cue before people not myself started using it. I don't want my cues to be like it.

I was warming up before a tourney a few weeks back and my opponent ran to grab my break cue while I was racking... He asked me if he could use it and I said "I would rather you didn't..." and he got pretty bent outta shape. Here in Puerto Rico, people trade break cues around like crazy....

The cue he grabbed was my Showcase sneaky, which breaks like a cannon, but also is just a fine cue to shoot with. I did not want him flattening my tip for me... AND in my experience, the break shot is where more damage can occur to a cue!

At another tourney two years ago, some guy grabbed it without asking and actually broke with it before I realized what was happening... it WAS the cue I was using to shoot with in that tourney, not my break stick, so I was double-P.O.'d.

Some people don't care about their equipment and will let anyone bang away with it... I am just not one of those people.

I tried to justify my thinking to the locals here, but they shook their heads and said I had commited a big faux pas.

In The States, I would never ever ask anyone to use their cues. Unless I was test hitting... that's it!

This reminds me of something I saw once....The Night before Joss tourney the room owner put on a challenge match and then a little beat the Pro afterwards...So all the regulars were there and the owner at the time was playing some....Some banger decides to play and picks up the owners 14k Southwest not knowing what it is and promptly bends the cue around the back of his neck Tom Cruise style...The regulars let out a gasp I thought Mark was going to have a meltdown in front of 100 people... :D

Yes, you were way out of line -- how dare you ask for your cue back?!

You did the right thing.

I used to let people I trust to try out my expensive playing cue. However, they know the value and they all have their own cues. After a couple of careful shoots they give it back.

My break/jump cue is $400 and I have let people break with it and jump too but not just any jerk. One time a trusted person misjudged the jump and the shaft hit the table, luckily nothing happened but lesson learned.

Another time in a match, this one guy who is always in my face says -'Let me use your break you'. I said -'sorry but no'. He is a dirty person and I don’t need his hands on my white rap, besides he is crazy too. He went to grab my cue I got in front of it we got into an argument. He told me he wanted to fight me, I told him you better kill me.
That was the end of it. He keeps getting in my face once in a while but not so pushy anymore.

Nobody touches my cue unless I say ‘yes’.

trusting Poolplayers around a girlfriend IS THE WRONG THING TO DO. They will be trying to get into her panties faster than your cue case, SO
REMEMBER ........ Always take your girlfriend with you when you go to the bathroom, or she might not be there when you get back ..... lol

Never let someone use your cue . If they damage it all you are going to get from them is "I'm Sorry " and your stuck with a damaged cue . What are you going to do bet the guy up ? I try to explain to them why it is not acceptable if they don't understand that then i tell them to #%@&% OFF. Non pool players don't understand that cues cost alot of money . Can i barrow your car and do wheelies with it ? If that was me i would have walk back in the room and said " DOES ANY ONE HAVE A PROBLEM "
