Yep, that's me. It was about 3 am in Vegas, and Cliff came up to me and told me he had a great game and needed a backer....in the meantime, "Could I let him hold a $100?" LOL ( I think he is still holding it)

I have been around for a while. My career has allowed me to travel often, and I always took my cues with me and I found a new place to play and meet some interesting characters. I got where I was going to many of the events all over the country. Eventually, others noticed that I was there quite a bit and an editor came up to me and after talking for a while he asked if I would be interested in writing some articles and player profiles for a book. After I worked on the book, I wrote for a couple magazines, and was asked to write for couple others. (One notable was I was the first to do a feature article on Landon Shuffet when he was little tyke for Inside Pool)

I seldom write articles now, but several years ago, I got a call on my cell phone from Las Vegas. It was by Bunny Rogoff, aka Pots and Pans. He had read several of my articles and wanted me to come to Las Vegas and write his life story. He told me he had never had job, and never wanted one or needed one. He offered me to live in one of his houses for free while I was working on the book. I told him I would think about the offer, and we never worked out the details, and sadly, as he has pasted, the opportunity is gone forever. I regret not going as he was so unique, and frankly, I think there will never be another like him.

I have spoken to a great shortstop/pro player in my hometown about writing a book about his life. He had refused me for years, but finally said yes, and now I don't have the time to get it done either.

WPA (world-standardized) 10-Ball rules do not eliminate that most-common type of 2-way shot. The incoming player has no option to return the shot after a simple miss of a called shot. The return option applies (1) if a ball is pocketed on a called safety, or (2) a called ball is pocketed in the wrong pocket, or (3) a ball that was not nominated is pocketed (and the nominated ball was not pocketed).

WPA rules do, however, eliminate the type of 2-way shot where the player tries to make either of two (or more) balls, because only one ball and pocket can be called.

Predator Tour 10-Ball rules do also eliminate the first type of 2-way shot, as the incoming player has the option to make his opponent shoot again after a miss.

I agree about call-shots....they turn 9-ball into a pedestrian game....
...in a tough spot, shots with multiple outcomes make the game exciting....
.....I like 3-cushion billiards because of this also.

As to the shot itself....I think Keith's intentions were 80% snooker, 10% hitting the
9-ball off two rails and cutting it in, and 10% thrree-railing the the four in the side.

And JAM....find a way of making the book happen....I'll take five of 'em.

I like 2-ways too - in fact, I think any good player should always look for them and play them whenever convenient.

That's why I'm glad that 10-ball rules don't remove them from the game. The actual rule you're thinking of is if you miss your shot but make an uncalled ball, then it's a push. 2-ways are still legal, as long as you don't make an uncalled ball.

I'll be different. I'm saying he slopped it in. Also he probably still hasn't had to chalk that cue again.:thumbup:

My question is why anybody would ever call safety under WPA or BCA rules.

Nobody should. In fact, even when playing an intentional safe I call the ball with the most likely remote chance of slopping in, just in case there's an earthquake and it does.

You pool aficionados guessed right, though. The shot was intentional, but Keith said he played it with having two safeties in mind, just in case, thanks to the placement of two of the balls on the felt. If he missed, he would have played safe, leaving his opponent an impossible or tough shot.

Buddy Hall put Keith in this event, but there were restrictions that Buddy placed on Keith, which are comical, but you'll have to read all about it another time, I guess.

The way he acted right before the shot (jumping all over it) I figured he played a two way shot. Excellent play imo
 
This is my favorite bank hands down in pool...3 rails in the side using the end rail, side rail, and then other end rail. It looks so pretty when it goes. I usually put a bit of right on the cue ball and try to spin it a bit so that it will hit that angle off the last rail. It's not easy but man I usually do a fist pump when it drops and then order a round of shots!
