I especially laughed at the scene where Vinny beats Mosel (sp?) while twirling his cue and dancing. I hate to think what would have happened to me if I ever did that in a strange room.

A bunch of us from the pool room went to see the movie together when it first came out in 1986. We all sat way up in the back togther, about 10 of us.

We were all rolling our eyes, looking at each other, during some scenes, and when a serious scene came up in a pool match, we were all giggles and laughs. Everybody was staring at us.

All in all, though, we were tickled pink that there was a movie about pool, so it was all good for us.

BTW, at this time, I had never heard of Keith McCready, Jimmy Mataya, Howard Vickery, or Grady Mathews. Didn't even catch that the first time around that they used real players. :embarrassed2:

Man, either you are a glutton for punishment or you enjoy watching Tom Cruise prance around a table while twirling a cue like a majorette. What a stinker of a movie.

That is the least of the holes in the plot. That movie is like every perception and stereotype of pool by someone who actually knows nothing about the game. The entire plot is horrible from beginning to end.

It reminds me of the movie "Backdraft". that I went to see with a fireman and he was squirming in his seat he hated it so bad. It is often hard to sit through movies sometimes if you really know the subject.[/QUOTE

Works for TV as well...you should listen to some real life loggers sounding off about how things are hyped up for AXMEN...not much real about the "reality" TV...

When it came out in 86, after the movie in the lobby of the theater was the ENTIRE pool room, i swear to god there wasnt one person missing and there was a pile of us from the room across the street, 30 at least, We were all pissed cause it ended with no end,

I started using that line after i'd rob someone "Do you think I need to lose some weight?" I never did get much of a response from it, but it always amused me, i weighed 210 at the time.

I always thought that Eddie had gone up there alone to kind of prove to himself that he's still a player. It took a little losing for his ego to cave in, then he started focusing back on his game. Guess I was wrong.

Funny timing...the movie just played at our pool hall.
It was good to see Keith....
...it was poignant to see Grady and the Miz.

Most of the pool scenes involved cheap balls.

When Newman and Cruise lagged near the end...they looked like APA 4s..
...Newman is right-handed....Cruise is left-handed..Cruise stood at the left
of the table...Newman stood at the right...they were crowding each other.
...like two beginners who rack at the wrong end of the table

Why the hell doesn't Tom Cruise ask Forrest Whittaker (Amos) to play after he beats Eddie?

It's not like Amos knows who Vince is because Vince is an unknown too. Would have been a perfect time to ask him for a spot or play even at worst and beat him out of everything he had on him.

Because a great actor (Forrest Whittaker) didn't want to hang around a mediocre actor (Tom Cruise) any longer than necessary. Would you want to play pool with a mediocre prima donna? Well, he didn't want to act with one.

To quote Eddie, "It's the same in all walks of life, he who has the most is the best", or something to that effect. At any rate, Tom Cruise > Forest Whitaker
