Water Stain on Simonis
I had a similar problem.
I tried to remove a small spill of alcohol hand cleaner from my brand new blue/green Gorina Basalt. I used a wet sponge and lightly brushed it back and forth on an area about 4 x 6 inches. Next day, there was a dark spot where I applied the water. So, I tried it again, this time in a spot about 4 inches by sixteen inches. Next day, same thing. A dark spot. The water was causing the cloth to darken. I figured what the hell, so I got a spray bottle and sprayed about a pint or more of water evenly across the entire cloth, rails and all. Then, I took a microfiber kitchen sponge and lightly wiped the cloth down using one straight continuous stroke from the head end to the foot and back.
Next day, the cloth was perfect. The water darkened it very evenly. Also, the fibers were raised a bit and had a very nice appearance. Actually, it looks much better than when it was first installed. It also played great. A month or so later, when it had quite a number of cue tip marks on it, I repeated the process. Same result. Great look and excellent play.
Billiard cloth is like any other large flat horizontal surface......scuff marks, stains, or any other irregularity shows up like a sore thumb. So, if you try this, don't scrub back and forth with short strokes or you will scuff the cloth's finish. Just push the sponge from one end to the other and back in one continuous motion.
Take note, I am in southern New Mexico where the humidity is very, very low. Therefore, my cloth was dry within the hour.
One other important thing......I used distilled water. Hard water, or water with a high amount of mineral content may leave white deposits on dark cloth.
