Water Buffalo Break Tips

I was just wondering what everyones opinion was on these as I am thinking of getting them if they are any good.

I don't recommend the WB tips on j/b's anymore. While they are a hard "leather" tip...they are somewhat brittle. I've seen far too many that would blow a piece out of the side on a slight miscue. For this reason...if you HAVE to have leather....you may want to try the red layered WB tip called SuperPro. These are very hard, if not harder than the regular WB...and I've had no problems with them.

The reason I'm thinking of getting these is apparently even for the average player they can blow the rack appart and give excellent cue ball control. Is this true?. Btw I am an average player.

if they charge you more for "break tips" than the normal hard water buffalo, don't waste your money. your standard hard water buffalos are all you need, and paying extra for "break tips" won't make you break better.

Standard water buffalo tips are indeed very hard and fantastic break tips. For some reason, even with all these phenolic and other fancy materials around, I just find myself going back to leather tips for the break cue.

I have a WB on my J/B cue and have no problems with it so far. I guess it has been on there about a year now. I like the tip, and it has required little maintenance. You should try one to see if it fits your liking.

I have tried MANY tips on a break cue. I have found that of all the leather break tips, the water buffalo is by far teh best. Specifically, the ones that appear to be "WB" brand. I don't know who actually makes them, but that is what it says on the box. This "brand" appears to make two varieties. One is brown, almost a reddish brown. The other is black. The black ones are the ones I like. They hit quite hard, but offer decent control. Of course, these properties depend entirely on how hard you hit the cue ball. I hit pretty hard (20-25 mph). For me, this tip gives just the right amount of compression to yield high cueball speed and good control. I must say, though, that I have almost totally converted to either the black phenolic on my Omen break cue or more recently the Xtreme tip on my X Breaker cue. I still love the water buffalo, though. And yes, it can be somewhat brittle. You have to be certain to maintain a slight radius to the tip and maintain it so that it is not mushroomed. Also, it helps to have it not much taller than medium height. If it is very tall or mushroomed, the likelihood of a chunk coming out is much higher.

Just do not pay to much for them, they cost just a little more than a box of La Pro tips.

I sell them loose for around $2.20 for 3 tips.

My Experience

I use to install the Talisman WB tips on break cues for people who asked for them. I had several split in two on the first break shot made with them. I do not use them anymore. I have about 15 of them for sale cheap!
I do like the Talisman med. layered tips!

Try some Josey Thunder Tips!!!!

I just had Keith Josey put one of his Thunder tips on my break cue. It is great tip. Very hard and grips the cueball well. Give him a call and talk to him about them. I am sure you will like them!!!!!
