Waxing Your Cue Butt

Hi all,

Not sure if this has been discuss before. Anyway I recently thought of the idea of using some auto products like car polishing wax on my cue part. My precious Mezz cue that I have been playing for past 3 years is losing some of its shine due to some light scratches on its finish. I believe the actual cue is not scratch at all.

I am wondering if all these car wax can fill up those light scratches on the finish and eventually restore its shine like when you first bought it. Using the hand polishing method with a soft microfibre cloth.

Has anyone tried this before and if so what products did you use? Would the chemical damage the cue?

Hope the cue makers are able to provide some insights on this. Thanks

Meguiars scratch-x works GREAT. I learned of it on this forum a few months ago. Also it doesnt leave the cue all waxey ans slick feeeling, just looks that way.

Wax is good at protecting the finish. Not restoring it. Best bet, IMHO, is to get it buffed out. Bact to it original shine. Then keep it waxed to protect the shine. Yes I use car wax and compounds to keep my cues shining.

I heard great review on this product but someone ever mention that this is a very harsh product.

hmm.. I guess products like such or even the 3m rubbing compound we are removing some layers of the finish to reveal a new coat of shine?

wax

renisance wax is the nuts for this,it will harden and is fingerprint resistant.read up on it, cool stuff, works good on shafts too.

Cool, just google-ed it. Seems appropriate as it is used mainly for preservation of furniture. Thanks for the suggestion

You might want to check this one out. Dr. WoodWell.

I use it when I do a natural finish. Read what they have to say on the web site. The guy at the local paint store gave me a bottle to try out. I'm sold.

You might consider Murphy's Oil Soap too.

I'd look into collinite, especially the super detergent proof one, easily last 6 months on a vehicle.. Super Fire Wet Diamond is pretty b.a. also...

I am in the flooring business and we caution people not to use Murphys Oil Soap on their wood floors as it leaves an oily residue that will over time dull the finish. It also makes it imposible to do a light sanding and refinish due to the build up.
I wax my cue once in awhile with what ever auto polish I have.

Thats good to know Bruce., Thanks. I bought a small bottle of it and used it once. I got some of Chris's shaft sealer and never looked back. If I remember, it was before I got my lathes and was going to try it on a shaft. It seemed to work ok on the butt, after all, your cue is just like a nice piece of furniture.

Is it safe to wax my bum with it still?

My wife likes it nice and smooth.

I'll still stand behind Dr, WoodWell any day of the week. I have seen the results.

That would be fine. But I would caution against the use of a high speed buffer. I would not stand in front of Dr. Woodwell.

I use GHS new age Guitar Gloss. Polishes and protects modern or traditional lacquers and paints. $6 bucks for 4 ounze bottle but goes a long ways. Been using product about 7 years.

looks like most people are using some light abrasives on their cues. The question now is which one, which I think boils down to how badly your cue is scratched up.
