Way to go schmitty!!!!!

John's 14.1 experience served him well. I loved the way he created just the right angles to float the CB from shot to shot. I think it also helped him with that insane 3-9 combo.

Unreal 3-9 combo by Schmidt to win match.
He is most in form player now and should be line over SVB for captain's pick for final singles match if it goes hill hill [/IMG]

If John continues to break and run at a rate of 100%, as he did against Gray, and Shane continues to produce no points, John would be the right pick at 10-10. Problem is that if Shane doesn't get started soon, the match won't get to 10-10.

Way too early to make the captain's pick, but so far, I'm with you.

The one ball he fired in and force followed the cueball 2 rails to get perfect on the 2 was unreal. I think it was 3-2 Gray at that point. John played awesome.

After the cue ball struck the 3 ball, did the cue ball hit the bottom rail or the side rail first?

Thanks,

Bottom rail. It was basically wired, with the 3 ball pushing the 9 a tad towards the bottom rail to begin with.

Bottom.

Cut it pretty thin...from that distance...nice shot...the 3-9 laid good, but avoiding the scratch on the back cut was tough.

Nice shot for sure.

Bottom rail, he hit it thin but firm so the 9 would have enough speed. I knew he was going to make it. They showed the the combo from the point of view of the pocket a bit earlier. It appeared to be either dead or that it was on to hit the top point of the pocket so the ball would naturally throw the right way towards the center of the pocket. The fact that John didn't spend much time looking at it(not sure if he still had his extension or not?) pretty much confirmed this for me, even though I thought he may be kicking at the combo instead of hitting it head on. His straight pool knowledge is definitely not hurting him. Both him and Gray played phenomenal and I can't wait to see what day 2 has in store!

john practiced real hard at garys and was in constant action leading up to this match, not surprising to me to see him play well!!! I watched him torcher the 12 ball ghost and run 150 every day !!!! go usa !!!!! gary henry owner of garys victor billiards
Thats wild to hear John practicing 14.1 and running 150 a day leading up to Mosconi cup... Straight Pool is a great game to play on your own and keep your game sharp for sure but going into the biggest 9 Ball Event of the year I would think he would just be working on his Break and playing/practicing 9 Ball. As a 14.1 fan its great to hear...and even better to hear that John is playing well.

I'm jumping on the Scmidt bandwagon also. He played great ! I got to watch some of it at work yesterday but today I came down with mosconicupitis so called in so I could watch from home the entire thing.....go usa !

Mosconicupitis. I love it.

Thanks for the reply but there is space between the nine ball and the 3 ball and at that angle I can't consider that wired. I reserve "wired" for "it can't be missed". The bottom rail would have been my choice but requires a thin cut at fairly quick speed. I wish I could see that particular shot on video, now wondering which other rails the cue ball made contact with. :embarrassed2:

Mosconicupitis • Catch it • It's worth it.

Yeah, it's contagious from what I hear.

Knockers?????

Keep sticking it to EUUUUROOOPE and the knockers...

He played good the 1st day but the 2nd day he sold out of at least 2 racks that clearly made the difference in the match and the outcome. Schmidt is now 1-2 in the matches he has played in.
Bergman missed a 7 ball that made the difference in his match with Neils that made for another loss for Team USA.
It seems to be very close so far and if Schmidt wouldn't have sold out several times and Bergman won his match Team USA would be in the lead.
As for a hill-hill match to decide the cup there is no way Schmidt would get chosen for that match or anyone else as SVB would be the pic.

I wasn't originally sold on Schmidt, but I came around yesterday. After Shane's performance again today, I am still sold on Schmidt's.

As of right now I wouldn't even have Shane as a pick it would goto one of the Justins. JB played great till that scratch and JH hasn't shown that he's compromised by the fans or pressure. Day 3 will be interesting to see since we should see JH in a solo matchup

It pains me to say this but Shane has historically played worse in this event than any other and this year is no exception. I hope he shakes it off.

Shane is back

I don't think Svb has played bad .

Shane came with that long almost straight power shot on the 4 that won the final doubles match with Corey. To me it was the best shot made by anyone so far and was under max pressure. They'd just seen a 4-2 lead evaporate and were hill-hill. He was close to jacked up straight in and had to get cue ball back down table for 5. But cue ball was on track to run into 7 on far rail killing any chance for shape. He hit it so strong he made the shape off the 7! Great shot! I'll bet we see a new Shane today.
