WE need a decent ppol hall in Dallas

David Danziger Took Care of all my Equipment at CJ's - He's One of the Best!!!

Rusty's in Fort Worth has GREAT 9 foot tables.

Yes, Rusty's has the best ones in DFW. They could use some work on their "shims," for some reason they reject well hit balls sometimes.....I'm ok with that, but it does make me pass up some shots and play safe when I would normally not.

It's true about Dallas though, there's not a good table in the entire city.....(except at some private homes and card games).....I prefer to play on private tables and that's where I also give lessons when in Dallas.

It's a shame what's happened in the last few years, I remember the "good ole days" with CJ's - it's a lot of trouble to keep up equipment, but worth it in the long run.

DFW Pool Rooms

Shit, if you guys think things are bad in Dallas, come visit Nebraska!!! (Notice I simply used the entire state rather than the only 2 real cities here.)

Not a pool hall

But Harbor Point in Richardson (Jupiter and Buckingham) recently (right around Christmas) put new Simonis cloth, new cushions and had the tables leveled. I would love an expert opinion from one of y'all on how the work was done, but as a player on it, they are by far the best tables in the Richardson/Garland/Plano area. Truest tables I've played on, but I've only been playing about 2 years.

I don't make enough money to support a pool hall on my own, but if it gave me a place to play on top notch table, I'd happily find a way to pay a membership. My bar tab is normally $15 to $30, plus the quarters for the bar boxes I play on. But I shoot in the same bar 3 nights a week, and when I can spend more I do. I just don't like to drink more than one or two drinks. I'll pay for table time if it means part of that payment is going towards maintaining the tables and fixing them when needed.

P.S., I would love for the players in the area to take some initiative. We all complain about the way the tables play but there are two things we can do to help prevent it. 1) We can (politely) educate those less fortunate than us (a.k.a those without the love of the game, just banging balls and having a few drinks) on table etiquette or hell, even ask bar owners to post rules for using the tables. 2) We can, as league players or individuals or even just groups of players that love the game, pitch in, even if it's up to 100% of the cost, to get these tables right. It has been said many times, pool ain't cheap. But, at a bar in Collin county at the edge of Richardson (Rack Daddy's at Coit and Bush), the last of the 9' tables is practically privately owned by a group of players that shoot quit a bit there. To my understanding they pay for the work done to that table, and they have a list of people approved to play on that table, and it's not a long list. Maybe one day I'll have a lit of my own :D

There just isnt any money in pool for the owners in my opinion. Also too you have to try to get knowedgeable people in there that can keep out the rif raf and run a straight up pool hall.I really dont care how bad the tables are.Come on be real if you let the public in you got to expect ugly abuse of the table.I really dont think smoking has anything to do with volume of customers.I dont smoke and hate going to a few tournaments in smoking halls.

Next time you come to Tulsa, stop by Magoos & let us know what you think about our hangout

Tables in DFW

Lots of "cloth layers" in DFW - only one true table mechanic (Shane Johnson). None of the pool owners want to pay to have their tables done right - they just want new cloth laid down and call it good - its crazy. One of the reasons I mostly play at home (I have a diamond 9 foot - always have Shane do the work). Plays perfect.

Lol...you're complaining about Dallas? Come up to Colorado for awhile and see how you like it up here.

True 'dat. When the economy tanked everything closed. The places we had been drinking and playing at for years were closing. Table Steaks, Colfax, The Billiard Institute, it's been years. There are a few places, and they're pretty nice, but it's a mere skeleton of what it once was
