We need more topics here in Carom land!

this is something I dont yet understand
I see most of the time I see a player hitting his cue ball into the red to strike the other cue ball

then I see it in reverse
the I see 1 cushion or 2 cushion shots

I really really dont get it

It can be very confusing to a newbie when observing a match or watching someone play. 3c is usually played with two players. The winner of the lag determines which ball will be his/hers...either white or yellow. Red is always neutral. From that point on, your cue ball will "always" be the color determined by the lag. There are many forms of billiards....3 cushion is just one version. The best way to learn the rules is to just google it. That's what I did when I first started out.

Your cue ball has to strike 3 or more rails and both balls. The key is your cue ball must strike the rails 3 or more times before it makes contact with the second ball. You can chose to shot ball first off red, ball first off of your opponents cue ball, rail first then a ball then 2 or more rails, 2 rails first then off a ball then 1 or more rails into the next ball, or 3 or more rails and then contact both balls. The choice is up to you. It's a beautiful game with so many different ways of playing each layout.

One of the most important things for you to remember is...the balls are bigger and heavier. Watch how the english applied reverses upon hitting the second rail...especially on corner shots. Learn the 3 rail shot into the corner and 5 rail shot into the opposite corner first and foremost. You will see these shots and their variances come up the majority of the time while playing.

Now you're hooked. Good luck and best of shooting.

Slick Rick posted that posting/communicating/participating is a waste of time. I appreciate his candid response and understand his angst. But at a certain level in the grand scheme of things everything is a waste of time so to speak.

The adage that "build it and they will come" only works when they actually use what was built for them to use.

In conclusion I have met the devil and he is us.

AND, if I may, I may be a little over-the-top, sometimes.
Nevertheless, it is greats like you, Sir Anderson, that devote their time (an non-reusable resource) to try to resuscitate Carom Billiards here in the USA. I will take that away from you!

In light of what I have observed throughout spending half of my lifetime being involved in billiards, I can only conclude (for now) that the track record for billiards (in general) will not reach mainstream status.... NOT IN A GOOD WHILE. As long as the future of tomorrow are indulging on technology, billiards will remain stagnant.
The only logical (and, here-say, idealistic) way that this sport (game... whatever), will heavily emerge are by two things:
1) It becomes an Olympic event
2) If there was a total eradication of technology the world over
Playing for money on this sport was only take you SO far (and that goes with Pocket Billiards as well).
Raymond Ceulemans said it right (sourced on the Carom TV Freeview webpage conducted interview by Charles Brown): Contact!
In order for this sport to get better, there has to be a devout-ed interest in this sport for everybody!
Unfortunately, there's no other representative of US Carom Billiards who will be taking the baton and running to give to another.
Let's treat this as a hobby... like the bow-and-arrow replaced by the AK-47. :shakehead:

HELLYEA!

Now this is what I was looking forward to when I got home from work and clicked on AZB!

Steve...I hear you man! I will be contacting you to order a cloth for my table in the next few weeks. By no means did I want to put you on the spot. BTW I need a set of cushion rubber for my Gold Crown also! and I have no idea what kind to replace the original with? K55...K65? I don't know man? Any help is much appreciated.
