I recently talked to a cuemaker about a cue order, and one of my requests was a stack wrap. Now I have heard some cuemakers don't like stack wraps for one reason or another, but I never heard this. He said that the stack wrap weighs 2-3 oz. more than a normal wrap (linen i guess?) and that it is impossible to balance the cue right with it. Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks
Ian

Stack wrap

That's a new one on me. The guys at Tiger could probably tell you, but my initial thoughts are that .023 of pigskin weighs the same whether you spiral it or flat wrap it.

Stack wraps are very labor intensive!!! It sounds like this cue maker? does not want to do one. All that said I like the regular leather wraps a lot better than stack leather wraps anyways.

The weight difference is very minor if any. Maybe he is planning on putting finish over it to give the extra weight. I would say get someone who has done more stack wraps to do the job.

Thanks for the replies, there's something about the feel stack wrap I really like. Putting a finish on it sort of defeats the purpose imo.

i'm not a cue maker, for that matter i cant change a tip, but i have been in alot of shops and understand cues and how they are made, there shouldnt be much weight difference at all, leather isnt much heavier than wood, if it is its not much, so even if the leather rings being stacked on each other were thick and heavy the wood it would be replacing would be subtracted from the weight of the cue thus it should be a wash or close to it, thus haveing a very little affect on balance/weight.

I like the look and feel of stacked wraps too-when they age-never put a finish on a stacked wrap, thats just awful, sounds to me like a lame excuse not to do the job for what ever reason, and i dont like jive things like that-i'd find another cue maker.

I had a cue that was 19.3 with linen and then with the stack wrap it was 19.7. It took a little to get used to it but it wasn't a big deal.

I agree - no difference in weight - and definitely have Ryan (Ratcues) do it!

I just had Ryan do a stack wrap and some other work and I'm pleased. Nice work Ryan.
