dont ever fuk up again!!
on the flip side of this situation,
i have a project in the works where the material is so porous,
i was concerned about it "sucking the epoxy" away from the core,
just the opposite of your deal
tell you about what i did sometime
over a beer or six

You dunked it on a bowl of goo ?

Btw, I've seen rattlers from million dollar cuemakers to engineer cuemakers.
I came across one with the famous 3" long phenolic buzz sleeve between the handle and the forearm. It still buzzed. A pro player once owned it and a friend of mine bought it . Took it to my mentor for a re-wrap. Took the linen out and we saw the phenolic sleeve. It had a rattle under the phen sleeve.
A friend of mine has a bushka. Hits great but it has a rattle.

Most of the time we are at the mercy of woods, glues and epoxies.
I love it when someone says epoxy is stronger than wood.
Great, they also shrink. A little gap the thickness of paper might be enough to create a buzz. And epoxies aren't getting cheaper.

Jimbos had a recent "Ask the Cuemaker" thread with Pete Tonkin. I loved one of his answers as it related to what a CM is.

Question: What advice would you share with them before they took the plunge? (into making cues)

Pete Tonkin: "Go to a trade school and take some machine shop classes. Don't ask how to do everything on cue forums take the time and learn to build cues on your own you have to fail a little to progress. And don't have the nerve to call your self a cuemaker just tell people you build cues until established cuemakers call you a cuemaker. To me this was one of the biggest rewards for me it like earning your right of passage to being a cuemaker."

This isn't directed at Trent, I just think it's something people should consider before entering the craft.

Pete Tonkin is keeping it real.... Don't know him but I like him based on that quote alone. It's amazing to me that true masters like Dickie and Wayne Holmes are much less known than guys that have been throwing cues together for 4-5 years.... Bar none, Dickie builds the best playing cue period... Wayne Holmes, his attention to detail is nuts.... Only two guys I would have build a cue for me. If you fall short of guys like that, don't quit your day job.

I agree completely. It seems like in the past 10 years alone, AZ has helped spawn HUNDREDS of new "cuemakers". It's gotten to a point where nowadays, anyone with a lathe can buy some components from Prather and/or other sources, assemble the pieces, take some pics, get a screen name on AZ like "So-and-so Cues", and boom! Instant cue maker! There's always a number of guys willing to spend a relatively low amount on a "custom" cue from these new guys because:

A) They foolishly think the word "custom" means "better"
B) They're all hoping to find the next big "it guy" in the cue world.

How many of these cuemakers today would even be known to anyone outside their home town if it weren't for AZ?

So guys like me are just cue assemblers? Ive learned quite a bit from Trent and a lot of really good cue builders on AZ. I think before you start calling people "assemblers" you should try "assembling" a cue, since its so damned easy. Ive built several cues, and i havent had one complaint, but people like you are why im hesitant to even dare post a pic of my work on here. I mean of course you would know all there is to cue making and be able to tell me how bad my cues are and how poor my construction is just by looking at my "assembly," right? And as far as i am concerned, im proud as hell of my cues. I started out with crap, and now i have a full shop and did it mostly with the help of guys on AZ. And my cues hit better and feel better than most any production cue ive ever held. But you probably already knew that too since you are such an expert.

Has this cue been sent to the buyer? Seems like it would be a no brainer to return the materials or send the cue.

This cue thing gets weirder and weirder.

In my experience dealing with pissed off people (I have a little) through a text medium it can be easy for things to get out of hand. A smart man once told me something about making decisions when he was pissed off. He said:

"Whenever I am really hot about something and make a decision I always wait a day before actually doing anything. Almost always after I cool down I decide on a different course of action than when I was pissed off."

I try hard to remember that when I'm pissed about something especially something online business related. Doesn't always work...sometimes I'm too pissed off to heed those words of wisdom but the majority of the time I do and they ring very true for me.

One thing is certain if you really do cut up this guys wood to spite him, after you screwed up, it makes you one of the biggest douchebags on the internet. Thats really saying something. I bet after you cool down you'll find a better resolution for all involved...or not. If not at least we'll get a 10 page thread out of it.

What a great post!
