Yep, deciphering the grammar is easy. Trying to understand either one is the puzzle.I can barely handle the dialog between the two of you .
I wish there was a sticky for just you two to exchange...thoughts.

I also want to know where this room is. I’ll add that Buffalos has close to that number. They are adding a Tournament/Players room in the next six months or so and will end up with about 23 Diamonds. All for $4 an hourThe nearest pool hall to me still only charges 5$ an hour and they have 19 diamonds...I don't go often....its a bit far away from me but when I do go I would gladly pay 2 or 3 times the price they charge to play. The equipment is well kept, the atmosphere is good and beer is cold. I go out of my way to buy a lot of drinks and eat there too when I go.
Nothing against you but be honest- you either wanted to try the shaft out first or wanted a local warranty.I wanted to stay and play. but i am pretty frugal, and I have always been. I don’t go to fancy steak houses, I don’t buy fancy cars, or watches. I quit trying to show off 30 years ago. I’m just a 64 year old retired guy who just loves this game. And yes, I would of had lunch and gotten something to drink. But my principals said no. And I follow them.
im the guy that paid 499 for my cutec carbon fiber shaft at a billiard store, when it was 450 all over EBAY, so I believe in helping out the industry.
Racktime in Toledo, Ohio. Last time I was there was last month and that was the hourly rate per table. Don't know if it's changed or not as it seems like the price of everything is going up.Where????
Our menu prices have basically tripled in the 25 years we’ve been in operation, but our $3/hr per person pool table rates have stayed the same.Racktime in Toledo, Ohio. There are some pretty solid names in those threads as posters, a few of them are no longer with us. I see you posted in there too Mr. Hu. Happy you are still here: pool player, hot rodder, Azb character..pretty good resume.
This thread had me thinking about table rates and what I have actually paid to play the game in rooms.
I believe the only time I have ever paid the full calculated rate vs time, was when I was in a large franchise room called "Dooley's". The tables were crap (in terms of competitive play) but the service was akin to a bar. The point was this place(s) used a computer system to turn on the table lights and subsequently start the clock at the same time. Anywhere else these two things were done manually.
So other than that one experience, I'd venture to say I have always received some level of price break when I went to even up. There's the rate and then what you pay. I suppose you can't count on the price break, but being a regular I would be amazed if you didn't get a hefty one.
All in all, I'm probably extremely ahead of the table time game. I'd struggle to think of someone that isn't.
Maybe you should try playing somebody for table time. Even if you lose, it seems that it would cost as much, as if you were playing by yourselfSo I found out that a pool hall near me, that I went to visit 1 year ago, was reopened with a new owner. The one and only time I was there a year ago, the tables were so dirty and nasty, that I only lasted 30 minutes, before I left in disgust.
so I was pretty happy to learn that a new owner had taken over, and had cleaned the place up, and had recovered the 9 diamond 7 foot tables. I thought wow, this could be my new home. The web page said 6.50 for a solo player per hour. Wow, perfect.
so I walked in today, ready to practice for a hour or two, and the nice girl at the front desk it’s 13.50 a hour to use a diamond table???
I said sweetie, your web page says 6.50 for a solo player? She said not anymore, as the diamonds have been recovered. I said I have two places that only charge 8 dollars per hour for diamonds?
I really wanted to give them my hard earned money and to help them on there journey, become a regular maybe.
but no way am I paying that price. Then I called there house pro for lesson prices, (not saying his name)and he says 100 a hour?
felt like saying dude, your not mark wilson or a famous pro, 100 a hour? So I struck out twice.![]()
If the new employee overcharged you, accidentally or intentionally, then clearly you had a reason / obligation to bring it to their attention, or to the owner / manager’s attention.A fairly new employee gigged me on table time in one of my usual haunts. I didn't say anything, I also didn't tip a penny! The owner noticed and knowing my habits well said that the new employee didn't know. "They will next time!"

I stopped in there once when I was in Dallas. Sweated some action but all the tables were full so I didn’t get to play.I saw a place just like that in Dallas Texas. Billy Incardona was one of the principles. The place was in a kinda heavy commercial area best I recall and still had the chinese restaurant sign out front. It had seven tables instead of fifteen or so but it was also around twenty years ago and the nine foot Diamond were set up to take dollar coins. Only selling very limited snacks, you could bring your own beer in. I looked at the place, realized that it had to be a honey trap of sorts. Billy was ready and willing to play anybody that came through the door, betting pretty high! Catch was Billy misjudged his current skills and the road players were a black hole instead of a source of income. The place closed shortly!
Asking seriously, what keeps the room you described open? It would have to have a 100% use more hours of the day than I have ever seen a pool room have and I don't think it would fly then.

In response to your last paragraph above, It sounds to me like that new employee was doing their job just as they are paid to do and should be commended for it.
Only the owner / manager should have the authority to give any customer, regular or not, a price break. Otherwise you’ll open up a can of worms for the potential for all kinds of problems.
My apologies for my misunderstanding in my reply.Chris, I didn't say he charged me full price, I said he gigged me on the table time.

I'm making a little edit. You are welcome to do the same if you like.My apologies for my misunderstanding in my reply.

This is very common especially if you typically play during the afternoons or late at night when it is slow. There are a ton of little scams employees run. Free drinks === bigger tips, etc. It's not right but it does happen a lot. Chris knows this all to well I am sure.Thank you for the kind words in a coupla posts! I'm not in need of a "Mr" in front of my name or walking on eggs replying to me. I have been around awhile seen a good bit, done a lot, and have the scars to prove it! Never-the-less, pool forums are great levelers. With a few exceptions like Ray Martin none on here are more deserving or less deserving to be called Mr. Might be polite but if we start calling each other Mr and Ms all the time but that is two more letters to have to type for no good reason!
You have probably seen me post about Don Gentner in the past without using his name. Don's posts appeared almost illiterate but his knowledge in our little benchrest niche was fantastic and he handmade bullets that were as good or better than any in the world! He was getting close to having enough points to get in the Hall of Fame and that is a tough nut to crack! I had talked to him a few years on the net and we were friends when we finally met face to face at a major shoot. Turned out that Don not only had a PhD, he was the head of a school at an ivy league college! I was glad that I had never said anything in the slightest to bash his writing or to laugh at it. We never know who or what is behind internet handles. I have surprised a lot of people over the years, what you see on the internet is what you will see face to face. Stunned one fella when I started razzing him when he pulled up at a shoot. "Damn, you are just like the person on the net!"
When I go in my favorite New Orleans haunt I tell them to put me on the daily special. There were once signs up concerning it, now only regulars know there is a daily special. However, I also tip well, sometimes very very well! I had went to the counter and told them to put me on the special. I have been out of town long enough I ended up doing a lot more catching up with friends than hitting balls. When I went to the counter I was told two dollars. I slid out two fives. "No, two dollars." "Will you settle for that?" The light bulb finally went off! I agreed to pay six-fifty plus my usual tip, that is what I gave.
I have done that a handful of places. The only nine-footer for miles around was a very ratty old Big G. The owner of the place was an old scuffler himself, had a pretty nice Espiretti cue. He never billed for table time, I put five or ten bucks in the tip jar. Everybody happy!

I really enjoyed it. Some named players and good action. Billy wasn’t there. I caught some heat because it was a work trip and colleagues wanted to have dinner but I ditched them to go there. Lol. Not sorry.I don't know if it had been a bandstand or what but wasn't that second story box to sweat the action from the gold plated nuts? I couldn't picture that place lasting but one of those times I hated to be right!
