Ok here I am at 3 am sitting here in fornt of the computer trying to get this shot out of my head. Keep in mind I have a tournament to run at 11 in the morning.

I was playing with some friends this evening and was taking some serious flack cause I was a little off my game. We were playing straight up partners
8-ball. I get ball in hand at one to go before the 8. Simple shot in the top right corner of the table with shape for the 8 built in. Some how, some way ol'whitey figgured out a way to land right in the side pocket. I shot the shot with about a tip of inside and straight middle english. I still cand figure out what I did wrong? The way I had it set I should have never even been close to taht side. Maybe if I drilled the heck out of it it might come around table and end up in the other side.

Anyway any insight would be helpful. Im going to go try to get some sleep.

If you had shape for the 8 "built-in", why would you use a tip of inside english? Sounds to me like you simply over-analyzed the shot or tried to do too much with the cue ball when it wasn't necessary. It's hard to say without seeing it on a diagram.

I agree.

With ball in hand every thing is there. Angle-Speed, Spin......SPF=randyg

These two lines are also the cause of your problem, NO shot is simple, if you think it is then your not 100% concentrating on the shot your 'lettin' up'. When you miss you'll probably just lay blame etc instead of diagnosing the problem and putting it into your muscle memory bank so it DOESN'T happen again next time.
Shape is never 100% built in because you still have to execute each and every shot 100%.

when I train people in ball in hand placement, I always tell them pretty much the same thing.... use center ball/natural roll before you use top, use top before you use draw.

If you're going to have to touch one or more rails for position, use outside before inside.

I can hardly think of any times in the past when I've had to use inside with ball in hand. Whatever that inside english is accomplishing could probably be done by just lining up the ball straighter or with more angle.
