What are the BCAPL National Events entry numbers this year compared to last year?

I couldn't find the link on their website to the list of entries......cause their website is one of the most brutal to navigate on the interwebs.

Thanks SB.....good to see 8 ball and 9 ball singles up (although I remember when my friend won the single event years ago, it had 1578 players in the Open division). Bad that team events are still dwindling by 8% or greater. Maybe someday the BCAPL will fix it as I loved going to this event. Not going for the first time since 1998 myself.

Last year I was on a Platinum team for 8ball, very disappointed about only 14 teams.
This year I put together a Gold team so we could have many more matches to play. Not to mention better chance at bigger payday.....

We got second out of 422 teams last year, played each day at 9AM and played 14 hours straight the last day and got paid $5,000. Good luck on that bigger payday.

Two things about the team numbers.....

1. I was too lazy to count the Mixed Gold team names from the 20+ pages of entrants so this figure is an estimate. Could be plus/minus 5.

2. The team numbers will continue to grow as TBD teams get filled in.

That always confuses me with a deadline how there are TBD teams

That always confuses me with a deadline how there are TBD teams

League operators must register teams by the regular deadline but they have a later deadline to submit the names of the teams/players for TBD teams. The deadline for TBD submittal was July 3rd but since the late-entry deadline was pushed back I wouldn't be surprised if the TBD deadline was also pushed back.

Once CSI gets the names they still have to verify the players, look up Fargo ratings, etc., and then manually enter the info into the database for it to show up online. This is also true for entries sent by snail mail. It's a lot of work and they do a pretty good job.

Hi Steve,

Nice to see you still posting. Actually I was not going to the BCAPL's until early in June. Found out a Southwest ticket I held expired July 31. Pretty sure I've been going since 90 or 91. Entries look pretty much the same as last year.

Found that going to the CSI website and going to the events tab brought up current and past events. Clicked on past events and a list of yearly events came up. Clicked on the nationals for the year I was interested in tab and got the list of finishers and payouts per event.

Hope to run into you soon.

Lyn

Chris,

Was nice to meet you at the ACS event. You play very well. Perhaps we will play again next year.

We were right behind you guys in 3rd and got $3,600. Same thoughts, good luck on a bigger payday.

Shame to continually see team counts dwindle every year...... lots of people I have spoke with would like to get away from the Rio and not play in the middle of summer..(prime family vacation time)..

Was surprised to see the entires also down at the ACS and VNEA events in Vegas this past May. Perhaps the date is not as important as other factors. Vegas has become really expensive. Hotels are charging resort fees. Airlines prices are through the roof. Rental cars are outragious. Strip hotels are charging for parking even if you valet. Then there is the infamous "door nazis". Just try to buy a coffee at the Rio Starbucks and then be told you must leave it at the door. Same with any other outside food or drink. No one factor seems to be paramount. Problem is, do you, me or anyone have a better idea other than moving out of Vegas? I sure don't.

Did the counts for teams also include USAPL? or just BCAPL? Since that event is going at the same time and are both CSI events.

Good point. Perhaps some of the BCAPL numbers loss is partially contributed by a growth of USAPL? Don't play USAPL so I have no knowledge of the numbers involved. Do you or any other poster on this thread know if you "buy" a USAPL franchise. Is it more like the BCAPL where you have a territory but do not "own" it.

The drop in BCAPL numbers has nothing to do with the USAPL.

I think these are reasons numbers 1 and 2 for the decline. While the Rio is definitely nicer by a long shot, it simply doesn't matter for those that can't afford it, which I think there are quite a few, and even many of the players that can afford it still don't go because it simply is no longer worth the price to them.

Cardiac, I am Jack Murray, the USAPL National Director. The USAPL and BCAPL are different in almost everyway other than the rules of play. We do offer protected territories in the USAPL as opposed to the BCAPL where they protect the nights of play in a territory. We do not sell franchises, but work with one year license agreements. Currently, there is not a start-up cost for new League Managers. However, we are very strict on who we bring in as we want to make sure that they will properly serve the market and market the brand properly.

January 1st, 2017 we switched over to FargoRate player ratings and use our USAPL Handicap System to find the match between two players that give both players an equal chance to win. This allows the player who plays to the best of their ability to most likely win the match. The win/loss records for stronger players vs lower rated players is close to 50/50.

The USAPL is a league that is designed to target the beginning and intermediate players. It is a natural transition to be able to get beginning players competing in a system with accurate ratings and a fair handicap system to get the "bug" and work to improve and then possibly move on to playing in the BCAPL as well.

We have a number of USAPL members who are also playing BCAPL events at the National Championships. While I do not think that the growth of the USAPL has anything to do with the decline in BCAPL registrations over the years, my goal is to grow the USAPL so that the USAPL National Championships is as large of an event as the BCAPL National Championships.
