I want something with a great hit, a little eye candy, and (2) shafts. Want to stay under 2,500.00 bucks.

Should I order, or buy from inventory. Scruggs, Prewitt, Gina, and a couple of others come to mind.

Buy a Scruggs sneaky from Tank and take the rest and spend on lessons from Scott Lee...

That's the best advice you will get.

Think Erik Lee

A while back Erik had some Mike Bender Cue, there was one that caught my eye, "Gabon Ebony forearm with 5 Cocobolo points and 5 short Holly points." You will have money left over to buy a nice case also.

If you order a cue you may have to wait years depending on which maker you like. Why not check out the for sale section here at AZ. There are many great cues that will meet your budget and many great sellers here as well. Best of luck in your search for the magic wand, be carefull though for the search can be quite an addiction.

Order or not to order? Depends on how patient you are.

Let's see: Searing Merry Widow,South West,Prewitt Merry Widow,Judd Fuller,Keith Josey,Ginacue, etc.

Depends on what you like in terms of joint, balance point, tapers, etc...

With that kind of money I would do some research on your preferences and see who rises to the top. You may be surprised to find that some "production" cues, such as Joss and Schon may fit the bill and save you some money in the meantime.
Also, Erik Lee who is mentioned above has outstanding prices on Schon's.

Nice problem to have...

What are you looking for?
A player or eye candy. Where is it going? Out to league with you on Tuesday night or into a glass case on your mantle? The monetary range you have put yourself in bring all of these into play.
Whatever the case, the cue makers already mentioned by others in this post will help assure that your investment should be in that strata of cues that is relatively protected from depreciation and hopefully will appreciate in value.
Due diligence on your part with the advice and guidance of some of the more in-tune members of this forum (read: No Vested Interest) should lead you to a really sweet purchase.
Merry Christmas to yourself and may everyone on this forum have this kind of problem to solve this holiday season.:)

i have a joss west

joss west, domino pattern in butt cap. 4 prong 4 veneers. ss joint 2 original shafts one 13 mm one 12.5 mm. green flect linen wrap. cue looks great and is a player. i'm guessing 85%. stroud said he would refinish it for $300.00. i would rather have the 85% original finish myself. it was appraised in 2001 by brad simpson, blue book of pool cues, for 3000.00 your can buy it for your 2500.00. thanks chuck

Why take the lessons? Won't a $2500 cue make you a great player. I bought a Scruggs. I love the feel, but I think there must something wrong with the cue. I still can't pocket any balls. Yeah, that's it, it's the cue, not me.

That's very good advice, but THIS is the best you'll get:

By the Scruggs sneaky and put the rest in a mutual fund.

(But hey, that's just me...) :D

You can't go wrong with a Scruggs. It has it all... looks, playability, and great resale value.

Buy what is Hot and sells quickly so...

Look around the Buy Sell forum and see what sold like Hotcakes and put out feelers for one of those. My pics based on this bias is going to be Sugartree, Scruggs, Zyler, maybe a Southwest. If you decide you want to sell it in the near future, you should have little problem finding a buyer wanting to pick it up. Tank has a couple nice Zylr sneakys with rare joints for 1/3 of what you are looking to spend. I'll take the really rare 5/16-14 recessed joint for Christmas if you are feeling really generous. It would have been gone, if I could afford it right now... poooh hoooh hoooh.!.

Rauenzahn Cue

I would buy a Jerry Rauenzahn custom cue. You won't have to wait forever and while you could buy a "stock cue" or a used one from someother cue maker there is nothing like designing a cue hand in hand with the cuemaker himself. Jerry will work closely with you and build anything within reason that you want...and it wont cost you a fortune for a custom made cue with 2 shafts built to youe specifications. Jerry has built me 3 cues this year and he is a pleasure to work with. I also have two Rauenzahn cues I bought on ebay. I can send you pic's if you PM me. I think others on this site will agree that Jerry is a pleasure to work with and his cues are top rate.

Tell him Wedge sent you!!!

If you order

If you are going to order then
Dan Dishaw
It only took me 8 weeks to get me cue and I love it (it plays very well and it looks great)
He does great work, set the ballance where I wanted it, the 18.2 oz I wanted, And I got to pick out my wood

Just my opinion if you are going to order (Well that is what I did 9 weeks ago)
I did not what to wait for two years for a cue and I have never heard any thing bad about Dishaw cues and now I have one it plays better then quite a few otheres I have played with

Good luck
