Cues

I think the cue market has changed alot Cen Cen, the big cues are a thing of the past. 99% of us don't have $20,00 to spend on a cue. If I had to pick one cue maker, I'd go with a Searing for that price. But more realistic diversify and go with (3) $4,000 cues such as a SW or similar (4) $2,000 cues. Gives you alot more flexibility in the profile.

That's good insight Dan. But what I really meant was if you given 10k to spend, what cue you'll get? And if you're given 20k what will you get?

This thread would be more appropriate in the main forum. Unless you want people to show their 20k cues... lol :)

For 10 ish, I would like a very nice szam. For20 I would love a one off samsara utilizing that twisted fantail design, or maybe a crazy Thomas Wayne. Sooo many possibilities though.

10k...Saved for when Barry or Dennis got to my cue.

20k...The right Bushka or a pristine Gus...OR maybe if I could score an ultra fancy Kersenbrock or ultra fancy inlaid Franklin SW..or two..or both.

Searing, Showman, or Szam. The only cues I will buy.

Bushka, Mobley, Kers, on secondary list
Jason

10K Szam

20K Bushka

And if I really had it I would hold out for the "right" cue, but not too long...I would pull every string and call in every favor to get what I want.

And I would not wait for something to be made. I walked away from my place on the SW list like six years ago.

For me, the greatest have already been made.

Old school rules in my book. Several top notch current makers get a lot of attention and they deserve it. But I want the old wood.

And the cue would be played, no closet queen. And I already have the case for it.

Screw the $20k cue acquisition.........I'd rather have three $7k or two $8k cues.........that buys a lot of cue nowadays.

With your "budget" you, most likely, couldnt have an:

Inlaid Bushka
Inlaid Gus
Inlaid SW
Inlaid Kersenbrock
Inlaid Searing (except ringwork)
Semi fancy 4 point Barry Szam
Fancy 4 point Barry Szam
8 point Barry Szam
Nicely inlaid Boar
....... In fact you couldnt get a very fancy example from ANY of the top 15-20 cue makers unless you had between 10 and 20k to spend so that kinda of thins the selection a bit.

So if those makers aren't on your radar then your golden but I would gather most serious collectors would consider acquiring a cue from any of them a pinnacle moment.

for 10k ,i just bought a barry szamboti

nothing is such a sure winner as szamboti

for 20 k,i would consider a gus or a balabushka

or if i could get a unique south west i would buy one of those

there are many others but in my opinion nothing beats these

Interesting to think about because I'm not even sure I really desire a cue of this level.

I could see 10k for a Szamboti being something I'd want if I had the money.

20k for a cue just wouldn't seem reasonable to me. I'd much rather spread that out over some less expensive cues. I'd take a simple Szamboti, a simple Tasc, and a simple Southwest and still have some cash sitting around probably.

But really, if I had that kind of money I'd probably spend $4k on a cue and the rest on something else...just don't see myself needing/wanting more cue that that.
