what did you really think about meucci cues?

hello,
here in germany the cues have since a few years a very bad reputation. nearly every new player uses a different brand and many of the old player switch to something like mezz, joss, jim davis...
how is the situation in your country? how many cues do you think does he actually sell? did anybody know how the quality of the new 21 century line is?
please give me any thoughts, infos on meucci that you know.

This is just my opinion. I live in Memphis, the former home of Meucci cues. Back when I started to shoot pool, everyone in Memphis that could shoot had a Meucci. It was the local cue maker and you could go right to the factory and pick out a cue.

Meucci's suck, now.

Way back in the day, about 20 years ago they were decent cues. Now they are crap. Bob Meucci has gone way downhill in the overall quality of the cues. Don't get me wrong, a Meucci was never a Gus or anything like it.

It was a decent cue for a beginner to an intermediate player.

I used to think Meuccis were good, till I shot with a custom cue and found out different.

As for current Meuccis, I will grab a house cue before I use a Meucci.

The only way I would use a current Meucci is with an aftermarket shaft like Predator or OB-1.

I have had a number of Meucci's over the years. Originals, Small script M and the Large M with red dot shafts. I love the taper of the Meucci's and the covered wrap. I haven't had any issues with warping on any of the cues. I have one that I practice with and it sits on my table in a unheated garage and still is as straight as when I purchased it.

The quality is ok but not great.
 
Meucci cues haven't been any good for a very, very long time. I'd play with just about anything over a Meucci. Stick an OB1 on a broom handle and it will probably play better than a Meucci. Just my $0.02 though.
 
i own a few different meucci and i can tel you that the quality has definately gone down over the years. the only meucci i will stand by and fight over is my meucci original. it just about 21 years old and i still shoot with it. until i recently bought a custom cue it was still my main player. anything made after they switched logos from meucci original to meucci in script writing is a roll of the dice as far as quality. i own a few script cues all bought in the early 90's and they all have had different issues. the product they produce today is not vey good - imo.
 
Just my opinion but I think they are over priced junk. I would rather play with a Mali made in China then a Meucci. What I got a kick out of was the old war betwen Meucci & Predator over the deflection of the shafts. Then all of a sudden Meucci comes out with it's "Black Dot" shaft. Do yourself a favor and go to another cue maker. But again that is just my opinion.

...couldn't have said it better. I have a few Originals in my collection, but nothing newer than that.

I guess I'm lucky then.
I have an old Meucci 97-21 and after all the abuse I put it through it's still straight as an arrow. Then again, it's so friggin old that the white bits are yellowing. Maybe I lucked out and got my hands on one that was made in the 20th century :D
 
Back in the 80's when Hall, Rempe, David Howard and many other top players played with a Meucci, it was a good, solid playing cue. I don't know what Bob Meucci did but now the Meucci's don't even compare to the cheap Taiwan imports. I wouldn't give over $25 for any Meucci cue because that's about what I think they're worth.

When I started playing on a league back in the 80's there were two groups. The Meucci owners and the McD's. There were very few players that had anything else. I think they went down hill when he started doing the cues with decals. If anyone uses a Meucci now it is a player that bought one back in the 80's that never bought another cue.
 
I have an original road agent that I love to play with, gotta love the super long taper

the new ones are kinda stink pickles
 
I dont know...I dont think they are that bad for a beginner/mid level production cue.

I wouldnt buy the high price ones, I do know that. But for production, I dont think they are that bad.

I have an early 90's 233 series cue that I love. It is dead straight and has a very nice hit. I have also used an Original and really like that one. I know several people in our local league that have new ones with the black dot shafts and not a thing is wrong with them (the stick I mean). I know the quality has gone down from the Originals and early 90's, but some of them still play well.

I played with one when i was a kid in the early 90's i traded it off in 1997.
 
In my opinion, they are some of the worst hitting, best looking cues you will ever find. They are not that bad for a beginner b/c it helps them draw with how much the shaft bends, but you miss so many long shots b/c of that same bend.
 
I have a Original Meucci 84-8 and it's still straight and hits great. I have not played with a newer model so I can't comment on them but, I would endorse the Original Meucci line. Nice cue.
 
I have one of the original Sneakey Pete Meucci, a Day and Night Road Agent..and a cpl other Meucci originals...I like the way they play, but they are older...I have not played with a new one, but have looked at them and I could tell the quality has gotten bad....I would still play with one of my older Meucci cues though..
 
I have played with several cue, and I find the older Meucci originals are pretty descent but anything later I have no disire to own! Quality started slipping about 15 to 18 years ago and today is pityful. I would either find a original or look elsewhere.
