What do you guys think of Paul Dayton cues?

I am curious on opinions about Dayton cues.

Are they very desirable, or collectable?

How do they hit in your opinion?

How much do you think a 4 point (with veneers) Dayton cue would be worth?

There is one I am very interested in buying, but I just want to make sure that I would be able to get my money back out of it, when the time comes that I need to sell it (or if I do not like the hit of it for some reason).

It has a very beautiful BEM forearm, and a bumperless Hoppe style butt (I am told).

I just do not know anything about his cues, even though I know that he is a very well known cue maker (and has been for as long as I can remember).

Thanks.

Paul makes a very nice cues. The hit is nice and crisp. The fit and finish is excellent. His linen wrap is one of the best around. Hope this helps

Have one. Love it. In fact as I type this I am getting ready to head to the pool hall with a Dayton cue.

He dyes his own veneers, they are hardwood.

His inlays are done old school, no CNC. Nothing wrong with CNC, but he does them "by hand".

His cues have a reputation for their solid hit. Very good players.

He's a nice guy, but direct and to the point if you talk to him. He's not being short with you, he's just direct.

Known and respected cue maker.

paul makes great cues
i have 2,,,,:)
very solid firm hit
flat faced joint shaft
i would recommend his cues to anyone looking for a wel made cue at a fair price
check your pm

I bought a shaft with him and he was a pleasure to deal with.

I've been lucky to have mostly perfect transactions on the AZB and my exchange with him was one of the best.

Shaft is also top-notch.

I too have a Dayton...leather wrap ebony on ebony. Plays fantastic. good luck on your search.... Matt D.

IMHO Paul Dayton is under-appreciated.

Mine is a 5/16x14 piloted stainless joint. Very traditional. Plays excellent. Just got back from the pool hall and am pleased.

He is a wood fanatic. From what I hear he makes trips up North to select woods for shafts etc.

I am a cue guy. Maybe a fanatic. And I dig my Dayton. Pick your poison....

i'd buy, no matter what it looks like, what it weighs, how large the shafts are, whether it's straight or what you are paying you can't lose a cracker

that said, some think that if you like searing cues you might like a dayton

One means imagin...someday...maybe...

The other means to actually play with the cue...

Fantasy versus reality....

... As far as I know his finest work is still done "by hand", as your reference states. ....

The way I read it is that, by hand, he sharpens the rounded CNC points on inlays.

Either way, he makes terrific cues.

Paul Dayton cues

I'm very fortunate to live just a few minutes
away from Paul and I'm even more fortunate to
have 6 of his cues . If for some reason you aren't
satisfied with his Cue you will have no problem
getting your money back because people are always
ready to but one of his sticks. I hope you give him a
chance because I know you won't be disappointed.
Good luck .

Dayton cues

I'm not a great player or collector but I like my Dayton cue. He is very easy to reach and does great work. I had him put on a new wrap, turn down shafts, repair one chipped shaft, and add weight to the cue, as well as put on tips, all at various times. Very quick turn around. Just a matter of days. The finish is great and I've had no "lift" that I get on my other cues. Might have something to do with me being in Florida too, but when it comes down to it, he really knows his stuff when it comes to wood. The shafts have also stayed straighter than any cue I've had.

The taper is a bit different than any other cue. That takes a while to get used to but is comfortable when you do. It's a much longer taper. Still a stiff hitting cue. With the right hard tip and the Aegis ferrule he uses, it has a crisp hit. Real satisfying hit.

I've been contemplating ordering a new cue before he retires. If money were no thing, I would. But I have too much debt right now.

I don't know about resale value but his prices are very reasonable.

Paul's cues are top notch and he is a great guy to deal with. I've had a number of his cues and a few I'd love to have back in the case! He is very knowledgeable and has an excellent selection of woods. I actually turned a few friends on to his cues, one buddy has been using his Dayton Break/Jump and matching plain jane since 05 with no complaints, his back up is a Dayton Sneaky Pete I set up with, another buddy of mine has nice four pointer, snakewood into some of the most figured curly maple I have ever seen. There were a few issues with some ivory in "B" ring, Paul repaired and didn't charge a dime. Would not hesitate to pick up Paul's cues!

Paul's Cue is the top one

You have pretty damn good eye, so pretty good endorsement.
I was wondering about Dayton cues, and seems everyone is pretty darn happy.
Nice thread

Add me to the list of Paul Dayton fans. A close friend has a matching break and playing cue that I have shot with many times. Excellent cue in all respects and a hit very similar to my own Kikel. Both builders are under appreciated and under valued IMO..
