What ever happened to Mika Immonen?

The last time I saw him competing for a title was the US Open when he lost to Corey Duel 11-0.

Does anyone know if he is playing regular anywhere?
Maybe he is gearing up for Vegas next month?

As far as I know, he's still playing. I don't see him around much since he left NYC. He was playing at the 14.1 tourney in NJ last month. Playing well too.

I think he plays all the UPA events, he also recently came 4th in the world straight pool champs in NJ. He actually plays more in the US and dragin promotions comps in Korea than the Euro Tour.

is he not on the ipt?

Hence the reference to Vegas next month..

The IPT's first big tournament.

Yes, Mika was one of the original 150 players selected by the IPT.

He won the 2004 UPA championship and the 2004 and 2005 Atlanta Open since then. He plays alot out of the country in Invitationals and goes back to Finland to see his family. I dont think he is in the USA 50% of the year.

I distinctly remember Mika Immonen competing at the $25,000-added Joss Turning Stone 9-Ball Championship in Verona, NY this past April.

He has always been very accommodating to the fans, signing autographs and allowing railbirds like me to snap his photograph, shown here with Raj Hundal from England and Keith McCready.

BTW, the upcoming $25,000-added Joss Turning Stone Casino 9-Ball Championship will happen this coming August. I spoke to TD Mike Zuglan last week who informed me that the field is filling up FAST. So, if anyone is interested in competing, now's the time to get that entry fee in! Mike's phone number, if you desire more information about where to send it, is (518) 356-7163. :p

After the US Open I saw him in Athens in Oct (he won that event) and then I personally didn't see him again until Valley Forge. There were a number of players missing from the DCC this yr and if memory serves me correctly, he was one of them.

CW has had quite a bit going on over in Korea this past yr and I know he's played in a couple of those events.

I didn't know that he wasn't living in NYC anymore.... did he move to FL? That seems to be the hot spot for a lot of players, especially CW's "chosen ones".

Not too long ago Mika told me that he was living just outside of Philadelphia - but he does seem to be all over the place, so who knows. Most of the DP guys are living in Florida, with the exception of Hillbilly and Mika.

mika fell into the cushy life of an idol worshipped in the phillipines. he is currently trying to extricate himself from it. also, his business venture there has not bloomed as expected.

Mike Davis is also part of the DP (last I heard) and he's living in MD. Other than those three, I thought they all lived in FL.

Seems like Mika is just a free spirit, Tims. Last I heard, he is trying to get out of his nightclub that he has in the Phillipines. BJ mentioned that Mika has been hanging out in Phila. I seem to remember him having something to do with Planet 9 ball in Limerick, PA. Maybe that's why.

IIRC he was involved with Planet 9 Ball back about 3 or 4 yrs ago. It was the 1st time I went to VF...they announced it when introducing him. I think he got out of it not too much longer after that. Is that place still there? I've never been to Limerick..... Honestly, I can't see why anyone in the pool world would bother with PA. I guess you guys might have a decent place or two in the Philly area but so far, I haven't been impressed with a single pool room yet in PA. LOL, that's one thing the south knows how to do.... build a pool room! :p We might've lost the war but we kick butt when it comes to pool rooms. :D

Whats this "you guys" noise? I'm from Jersey :p

Actually, 6 and one half dozen. I'm 30 minutes outside of NYC and an hour away from Philly. Supposedly, there's been alot of action in and around Philly. Danny Basavich has been hanging out there too.

I think that Mika's probably hit the bottle.

The following pic proves it.

Heh, heh. Just joking.

He's a good guy, and an extremely competitive pool-player - not to mention, a natural talent. How many of us have won the WPC? None I recon (apart from USER = thorstenhohmann...

Anyhoos... This week's compo...

Q: Who's had more to drink? BS or MI?

MI & BS2.jpg

There's a cube of chalk for the winner...

mika's not a gambler. i don't see him going where the action is. he's more prone to look for business ventures, which is the smart thing to do.

In the last month alone, Immonen has come third in the BCA "playpool.com" Open in Las Vegas and tied for third in the World Straight Pool Championships in New Jersey. That's what happened to him.

Philly doesn't have a good pool room? Drexeline and Tacony are pretty decent and I think Drexeline is the best room I've been to in the tri-state area.

In Philly I've only been to Drexeline, Some place on the lower level of the bldg that had a club on the top level across from Dave & Busters on Columbus (?) that's now closed, Dave & Busters, & Jillians (which is also a D&B now). I know there's other rooms, and I don't consider D&B/Jillians to be a pool room. Drexeline is an ok pool room... it just depends on what you're used to. Guess I got spoiled in SC & TX... PA doesn't cut it for me... at least not the ones that I've been in and I've been told that the ones that I haven't been in are close in comparison to the ones that I have been to....

I live in PA and I've got some great friends here... what I don't have is a great pool room. If the pool rooms here are the only rooms you know, then they're great for you and I'm happy for you...Unfortunately for me, they're not great for me. :(
