I let a local player borrow my cue with 314-2 shaft and after winning three sets he set the cue down and borrowed something else, when I picked it up the ferrule was cracked halfway around at the cap. Just wanting ideas for a good replacement material I can put on myself that might even hit better than the original.--thanks--Leonard

I know that Atlas sells that material that is on it. If it wasnt a Predator shaft I would say use LBM.

What material

Titan is the name of the material sold by Atlas and used by Predator on thier shafts now. Also you will want to keep the ferrule-wall thickness the same as it was originally, as this is responsable for part of Predators low deflection hit premise. Titan is lighter than LBM and in thinner wall segments, supposeably, less likely to crack.

I was thinking of trying a piece of the yellow stuff that masonh has been selling, do you think it would hold up with that thin of a wall ? or a piece of zuma ?--Leonard

Actually Willie they quit using the Titan material a while back. It was the material that was not glueing good for them when they had all there ferrule issues on the China made 314-2's. They now use "Maxlite".

You could always send it in, changing the ferrule will void your warranty on the shaft. I'd just suck it up and mail it to them, they turn things around in a couple weeks. Plus you can have them recondition it and get it back to being like new while you are at it. I've used them and was very pleased with the results.

Where can you purchase this material?

Well I went with what I had and the yellow new micarta worked like a champ, put on a new everest and went upstairs to my table and couldn't put the cue down. I didn't notice much of a change in deflection and the hit is about the same. Thanks for all the information and KV if you read this see if you can guess who borrowed the cue and won the tournament. The same player went 4 rounds at smokin cue wenesday night playing with a phenolic tipped predator bk2 breakstick, I was warned earlier but didn't listen.--Leonard

my ferrules are all threaded 3/8-10 and i have several out there in the 12.5mm range so the material holds up pretty well.it is quite a bit stronger than LBM,by about 7000psi and slightly lighter.also, like you said the deflection is extremely low and you also get plenty of action.
