What happened to Dufferin?

I guess I am out of the loop, I tried to find their site today and I guess they went bankrupt from what I read, is that right?

Dufferin stores converted into FG Bradly's...and the tables are now made by Canada Billiard. Not sure what happened to the rest of the Dufferin product lines.

Dont quote me on this though...as I've been known to be wrong in the past (and fairly often at that).

And for the record, Dufferin had *by far* the best entry level cues ever made IMO. I know people that have really old Dufferin cues that are still perfectly straight and hit like new. The old saying "they sure dont build them like they used to" would certainly be fitting here (I cant say it myself, as Im far too young to know from personal experience lol).

I remember buying those 2 piece Dufferin cues at Wal Mart. They were like 30 bucks, and if you found one that was straight, man it was great! My local pool room has a lot of dufferin house cues that hit like a truck! The only problem with them was weeding out the crooked junk cues to get to the good ones, but in the end, it was worth it.

Many Dufferin Game Room stores we simply closed. At one time we had 2 retail locations in Saskatoon. The last one closed over 5 years ago if my memory serves me well (and it too often does not, it could have been 10 years ago <shrug> ).

I believe that some of the cue products (they made/make a solid and popular house cue, I have a bunch) are still made in China (see more comments below).

Likewise.

I bought my Dufferin Phantom (sneaky pete that looks EXACTLY like a one-piece house cue for some reason  ) at a local dealer 10 years ago, it a great cue and I use it for breaking to this day. Within the last year I was speaking with the old timer I bought it from, asking about the quality of the new models. He figured they were about as good. Obviously ymmv.

Anything with a maple leaf on it has to be good. Eh!

There was a dufferin store in one of the malls in town which closed about ten years ago, but not more than 12 or 13 years. It is too bad as I used to love going into the store as a kid.

At Fast Eddies in Houston, TX. I used to play with their dufferins all the time. They did hit pretty decent...Not to mention the only type of house cue that I was able to jump a ball with.

The Dufferin name and equipment were bought by Cue and Case Sales. They currently produce cues under the Dufferin name.

The old Dufferin two-piece was a great cue. And I don't mean good for the price either. It was a very solid hitting cue also. If you blind folded 10 pool players I don't think any of them would think they were shooting with a $25 cue. I had a 20 oz. for years that I brought into bars and also played a lot of 3-cushion with. It got stolen at Good Time Charlies in Tampa while I was playing in a 9-ball $10 & $5 ring game around 1981. Johnnyt

I bought a one piece 21 oz Dufferin that I use for three cushion. It was sitting in a trash can full of junk cues at a pool table store. Absolutely straight. Best cue I have. Ten bucks.

Dufferin made great cues and tables. I believe the founder died, cancer or something, and the sons took over. They opened all these stores selling board games etc... They had their money tied up in grouth rather than continuing making quality cues and tables. Here in Canada they sold more tables and cues than anyone (guessing here, but every one seem to have one). I heard a company from China came in and bought the pieces. Their cues in the $50 to $250 range could not be touched.

Speaking of Canadian Billiards, local pool hall here has about 18 black crown tables, which I think are made by canadian billiards

I just bought a duffering 2 piece at the super billiards expo. I got it for 25 bucks and hit breaks great!
