What happened to Ebonite Billiards?

I was sorting through some old magazines and this brochure fell out. It reminded me of Ebonite. Didn't they also used to make bowling stuff? AMF was another bowling+billiard company that isn't doing billiards any more.

That looks like a fairly more modern picture of Willie so it most likely was after his affiliation with Brunswick. I don't ever recall Ebonite being a major player in Billiard equipment but they still make bowling balls. Don't think I ever saw an Ebonite table, at least not in any pool hall.

Perhaps they hired Willie hoping to chum the waters to get a foothold, but never really did and got out?

Ebonite Billiards

Bob,

I remember something about ebonite doing something in Billiards. I keep thinking they somehow worked/merged with a company called something like All-Tech (??). Whatever the company was called, they were in Hialeah, florida because I tried to find them (unsuccessfully).

This would have been around the early 1970's.

I actually had some of them and remember selling a white table (with red cloth) to a famous Alaskan businessman.

Also remember moving it to Girdwood, Alaska in December in an El Camino and getting stuck in some nasty cold weather. Froze my butt off.

The things I used to do - makes me wonder how I got to be so old!!!

That is the best I can remember

I know because I own 1 of their Barboxes

I purchased a white Ebonite table with red cloth in Anchorage for $20 last fall. Could be the same table although the one I bought looked like it hadn't moved since it was set up in the 1970's. I just recovered it last weekend. When I set it up I was impressed with the matching slates and the general ease of leveling and setting up the table. Did you work at Young's Firehouse?

Ebonite billiards

Toxictom,
I used to work with (and for) John young. His shop was at 1100 w. Dimond. The building with a 60' fire hose drying tower.

John and I went partners on 10 Ebonite (or so) pool tables. I sold them around 1970-71. Sold most of them from Lazy Cue Billiard Academy, located at 4231 Mt. View drive (out by old Park Lanes bowling alley.)

Pete Zamarello purchased the white table. I installed it at his 'cabin' at the base of Mt Alyeska. I put a sticker on all the tables I worked on- so pretty sure this is that table. Pete died a year or so ago. He also had a table at his house in Spenard on 33rd???

Pete was one of a kind - whose word was always good ( unless you were a bank) - luved that guy!

Mark,

Hope all is well.

Funny you mention All-Tech. I own 5-6 vintage 1950s kiddie rides made by All-Tech in Hialeah, FL. They are genuinely cool, and my grandkids love'em! A horse ride, a race car, a police car, etc.....they were among the earliest fancy interactive games.

I know All-Tech made pool tables in the late 1960s.

Like you say, as the years go by it is amazing how many things cross in the night!

I used to work for a conglomerate headquartered in Atlanta called Fuqua Industries. In the late 70’s & early 80’s we owned all three Ebonite companies. Ebonite Water Skis in Portland OR, Ebonite Bowling in Hopkinsville, KY and Ebonite Billiards in Miami, FL. I believe Ebonite Bowling was still in business until it was bought by Brunswick last year and operations were moved to Mexico. I have fond memories of working with all of those companies

wow, bob, mark, Christmas time and a thought that I think I have one of those All Tech tables, a 7', all high pressure laminate, 3/4 slate and it is in the basement..., karma
