What happened to the old cue gallery

It has nothing to do with cue maker putting pictures of work they are doing for spec. It is a problem if they are posting picture's of a customer's cue with out permission, but that doesn't seem likely if they want to keep a client. The problem I see is people taking other peoples pictures and using them in their own posts.I've seen this many times with my pictures and as a result I am not interested in posting pictures of all the new cues I've been collecting. As a matter of fact that is how I found out about AZ, someone got the pictures of my cue and was posting them on here and the late Mike Cochran called me and said I better check it out.So here I am.

Eric

Picture poachers, you got to be a sick human to do that!!

Those bloody bastards!! How low can some sink?

Rick

Really? Nobody?
I disagree.

A heck of a lot of people are interested in such things, and not just the cues but the very rich history surrounding them and the great cue makers involved.

In no particular order:
Jim McDermott
Dan Janes
Bill Stroud
Richard Helmstetter
Bob Meucci
Gordon Hart
Ricco Cervantes
Eugene Balner
Abe Rich
Saul Rich
And many, many more......

Yes, I want to see their work here.

Ok. So maybe I was a little harsh . I own a few production cues as well. I guess I see your point as this is where I started as well. I will admit to having become a cue snob though. I think everyone that stays in the cue game long enough does to a certain degree. Tastes become more refined.

nice job Craig.....looks HOT

Thanks Steve, I have had so many people coming in over the last 6 months trying to sell cues, I suspect it is because of the economy. Two weeks ago I had an older gentleman come in selling a couple of Schon cues. One was an R-6 and other was plain jane SLT-1 again the price was right so I bought them. Both cues were sold within 2 days, I have put the word out locally that anyone who has cue to sell should come see me before they go to a pawn shop, I always try to give people fair price based upon the cues value. I am still waiting for a Szamboti or a Bushka to walk through that door, but I suspect it will be long wait!!!!!!!:D

Thanks for the comments, and thanks to Chrisonline for the help identifying this cue.

The cue in my avatar is not mine. It is, however, one of my favorite cues. I did not even think that using the photo would offend or bother the actual owner (whomever that might be).

Help me understand further what harm comes from someone else using your photo? This is really an innocent question because the only thing I can think of is if someone were selling a cue and used your photo to misrepresent the actual cue they were selling in order to scam someone.

I truly enjoy seeing any and all cue pictures. It was the only way for me to know what to ask for when designing my first custom cue. It is the main reason I am on this forum daily. I am on this forum to see new cues by cue makers I don't know about, learn about the materials, learn about the process, and learn the history of cue making. Incidentally, I also get a glimpse of cue maker personalities and who I want to work with on my next cue. So please keep posting pics. If you find someone using your photo misleadingly or maliciously let them know or report them to the moderators. If the cue in my avatar is yours, I apologize. I meant no harm. My new cue arrives next week so I will be changing my avatar to the new nicest cue I've seen. :D

I will also be sure to post pics in this forum. Thank you to all who share.

I would agree. This used to be a site for pretty much high end custom cues. Now you have all the production stuff watering things down. Since everyone else is being politically correct I'll say it to all those reading. Nobody gives two craps about production stuff here . I think at the very least it should be put in its own section . I also am not a huge fan of I want to trade my (insert non- pool related item here) for a Szam, Gina or whatever

i am pretty new on this site compared to a lot of you. i admit i am not perfect but i have always tried to treat every poster with the dignity and respect i would like bestowed upon me.

with that being i am going to also throw being politicaly correct out the window and be frank on what this thread is really about. you are absolutely correct in your post.

being an astute observer and some one with a lil common sense it did not take me long to figure out this thread is for elite, pretentious cue snob collectors such as yourself, oh yea and their hanger on followers who drool and await with baited breath for the next great one to post picks of yet another amazing cue. darn that sentence was a mouthful.

i have only posted picks of 1 cue on here and it was in the ivory pointed cue thread. the reason being is i know you and people like you could give a rats ass about the average cue collector and their average cues.

maybe mr. forsythe could give us another forum. it could be titled " the common man and his common cue gallery.

I'd say a "few thousand dollar(s)" 16 ivory point cue qualifies you to join the not-so-common man and their not-so-common cue gallery. Nice cue!!

You don't know me . I already apologized for my earlier remark it was ill thought out not that I owe you an explanation.

I am a common man nothing more than an automotive mechanic so goes to show what you know .

Post or don't post , I really dont care . Your loss if you choose to keep your collection to yourself.

this kinda stuff always makes me chuckle . . . not seeing the big deal. : )
what terrible result from the image theft led to no more pic posting?

thanks for the compliment. but to some people even cues the level of mine are sub par to the elite cues comming out now a days.

you are right, i dont know you. i just responded to what you posted.as for the apology , well i think it takes a man to apologize for admitting he may be wrong. cudos to you.

but the way i see it you were not wrong in what you posted. you may have had a change of heart in your personal viewpoint on this subject. the thing is , there are several posters on here that do have the viewpoint of what you said in your earlier post.

That's very interesting....I don't see that at all. why not tell us who your talking about

Hi,

What good is a Cue Collection if it is not seen and appreciated?

I guess to a smart buyer of cues it is an appreciating asset.

For 30 years I collected antique diving helmets form all over the world and it was intended for my 3 kids college funds. Those helmets appreciated in value about 9% per annum and I sold 25 of them in less than 6 months on Ebay. When supply is low and demand is high things sell fast.

What do you think a Martin or a Gus is doing in value appreciation. There are only so many and they certainly not making them any more.

Show these cues and let the world enjoy the treasure is what I say.

My name is Rick and I admit it I have a cue problem myself. :groucho: Part of my 12 step program is to visit the Cue Gallery for the eye candy of the masters.

Rick

Hey

You do have a good point Rick, the only problem is the guys with the MASTERS aren't posting on here like they used to......which brings us back to my original question......WHAT HAPPENED TO THE CUE GALLERY?

At first I was thinking this was just a dilution effect, but a couple of people have said they are not inclined to post. So obviously what tikkler is saying is true.

Somebody said something about being told that posting pics of a cue could devalue it. I wonder if such an idea could decrease posting.

I have a hard time believing it's true, but I have no experience in dealing with high end cues, so I don't know.

As far as I know there are aren't that many true collectors that post pics on AZ. Now that is going to open a huge debate on what makes a true collector, and what doesn't.

My view on it is if you collect cues for the love and enjoyment of having these works of art, and sell a cue here or there or trade a cue to add Something to your collection.......that's a collector. TO ME.......IMO

there are collectors that have many beautiful cues, but they are all for sale?

The most satisfying part about owning these cues is to be able to post pics and share my addiction to cues...lol. I have been collecting for a lot of years, and have posted pics of every single cue I ever had in my possession. ITS GREAT FOR EVERY CUEAHOLIC AND IT'S GREAT FOR EVERY CUEMAKER

Again that's just my opinion. whether showing your cues lessens the value, I don't believe that's the case, actually I think it's the opposite.

Posting Cue Photos

I enjoy cues and the artistry in cue making.
The gallery and for sale portion of this forum are my favorite sections.

Every cue I own that is mid to high end has been posted on this forum.

Other than concerns of someone copying a design, I do not know why someone would want to hide a cue - but I respect this as a decision the buyer and cue maker can make. I can not make it for them.

Why own a custom vehicle - only to wrap it in burlap so no one can see what you are driving?

I would think showing off a cue would only enhance the value, but that's me, and I don't have experience with high end cues.

What is a collector. I agree with tikkler to an extent, it's easy to define what a "pure" collector is. But very often a collector is often a dealer and vice-versa. So the gray area can make it hard to define a dealer as well.

If this were a collector club it might be more important to define what a collector is. As it is I don't think it matters much.

If people are finding less pleasure in participating in this forum, it should be important to us as a community to understand that and seek to find a solution to improve the situation.

I think posting a high end cue just delivered from the maker increases the value for the owner if every one ooooh's and ahhhhh's over it and he wants to sell the cue .

Once the cue has traded hands and as each owner posts their pictures of the same cue I believe the value of the cue is diminished.
