I have always thought that a harder tip is more accurate. But the softer you get more english. At what point do you give up one for the other? Curious as to what hardness a majority of you play with.

Beating on Elks
Best way to treat elks, although I prefer to use a beer bottle (empty ) in order to keep a nice domed shape. Takes about 5 minutes, and is a bit of a drag, but otherwise it can take days or weeks for the tip to become 'played in'.

Tip Hardness
Let me just say right off that until a few years ago I didn't much thought to tips hardness or otherwise. However, since I started caring about it, I have begun experimenting with different tips on my two main shooters.
Both are Meuccis, both have blackdot shafts, so despite any difference in butts I felt they would be fairly easy to use as controls.
In general, soft tips gave me very good english control but simply wore out too quickly for my wallet.
Hard tips miscued too much, and were difficult for me to get any english at all on the ball. However, I did discover that if I shaped them diligently and was prepared to focus with great intensity, I could shoot well with them. They also seem to last forever.
For the last two years I have been using medium or medium hard tips. In particular I find Snipers and Moori tips to be the best for my game. I use a lot of english and both tips deliver a high level of control.
That said, I'll probably shoot Snipers from here on for three reasons. They are less expensive, they seem to last about as long as Mooris, and for the most part they deliver as much english as the Mooris. Personally I feel that a large part of what you can use on the ball is a function of mechanics.
Of course, I'm not a pro or even a high end player. I just get scientific about stuff like this.

I used to like a medium tip, but the medium I had over the years of use compressed into a 1mm high Hard which I grew to like. So I stuck on a Med Hard on there last week when my old tip died, and it feels super. I also have a seconadary stick (my break stick now) that has a layered tip of an unknown brand (to me at least), that feels softer, and I don't notice any difference in spin or any other effect, aside from pure feel of the hit.
