I saw this linked here a few days a go.Smorgy linked it maybe...I'm not quite sure.....but Google didn't bring it up or I got tired of looking before I found it.

When I did see it,I noticed a rather stout anti AZB stance in some posts.

I was wondering what the back story is ,if any.

Mr.Wilson please delete if I'm way out of line in some way....just wondering.

Haters fueled by hatred. Plain and simple. Oh yeah, sprinkle a few whiny b!tches in for good measure.

Jimbo's Army is the latest incarnation of a group of people who like to hang out with Jim Brennan. Jim Brennan is a pool newsgroup veteran who is famous for has scathing statements to people he does not agree with. He is famous for going the extra mile to offend and calls it fun.

He was kicked off of AZB because he went too far for the moderators here. So he went to Inside Pool and got a forum section there named "Jimbo".

Jimbo and myself have had very public and bitter disagreements online. On April 1st this year I "took over" Jimbo's section of Inside Pool's forum for a day. After that a new website called Jimbo's Army was created where it's "under their control".

Jimbo's Army refers to the group of people who support him to the point that they declare themselves "soldiers" in the "army". Presumably to fight the "ignorance" and "censorship" at AZB which they call nAZi.

This is where the issue of free speech comes up. I can however promise that if someone were to attack a cuemaker or other high profile visitor to Jimbo's Army in the same manner that Jimbo himself has attacked people over the years that he would in fact censor that person from doing so.

Basically Jimbo's Army is a splinter group of folks who started on other message boards and who prefer to hang out with each other. There are a host of other issues that they have but primarily it's with the censorship and politics that some feel are part of AZB.

And Jimbo's Army folks feel that they are far superior to the average AZB poster. They feel that AZB posters are on average quite idiotic and inane and that the quality of conversation here is far beneath the intellectual and intellegence level of their postings. This is quite evidenced in their negative comments concerning AZB.

Interstingly enough though a lot of their content is taken from AZB when their members scour AZ and repost the content.

So that's Jimbo's Army in my view.

http://www.jimboarmy.com

Its an online pool-based forum that consists of many current and former AZers. The "JimBo army" is actually just a name that was inspired by the site's mastermind (and former AZer) JimBo. Jim was a guy who often spoke his mind here. He didn't care about who he upset or pissed off. He said what he felt... a rather admirable quality.

However, Jim's tone was and still is, often sarcastic, thus meeting with a lot of disapproval from the mods and a slew of tight-asses that have infested this sight. Conflict often arose and soon, posts were deleted, threads were removed, bans were set in place, and subsequently the freedom to express your opinions on this site WITHOUT scrutiny and sometimes punishment promptly disappeared.

So Jim took it upon himself to start a pool-inspired forum where pool nuts could meet up and talk about pool, cues, and anything else they wanted. Many of Jim's friends joined. Lots of us meet in his CHAT room daily. We meet up each year at VF. We basically have a good time without having to worry about bans, reprimands, etc.

Jim, being a collector, has also garnered some big name support with members like Mike Webb, Murray Tucker, Dave Barrenbrugge, Bill Stroud, Jerry McWorter, Thomas Wayne, and others.

Its a lot of fun actually because the site is reminiscent of AZ years ago before the influx of tight-asses who object to just about any and every opinion that differs from their own.

Give it a try. It may help give you some better perspective on THIS place.

I was just coming on to the boards when Jimbo was on his way out but it sounds like a clique-ariffic circle jerk

Oh, and for the record, I am a friend of Jim's. I am NOT a soldier in any "army". The name is just a nod to the site's founder.

And John Barton? He's just an ass with a grudge. Pay him and his post no mind.

This is what I saw quite a bit of...(among other things) that got me to wondering.

Very anti azb as a whole,to the point it seems like a theme..

Edited to add:

I'm really think I stepped into something here...lots of replies while I was posting my last one (this one)....
I like this site and imo it is run just fine.

Sounds like you're bucking for a promotion in the army.

Nope. I'm just a guy who has been here longer than a lot of others, yourself included. And I remember this place when it was a LOT better, before the bans. And before a lot of great posters left on their own, because like so many others, they saw this place beginning to slip.

Speaking your mind is an admirable quality when it's done respectfully. That is the number one thing that Jim lacks. And when he is on the warpath he is relentless in his insults.

Not surprisingly he is much less apt to be this way when he is trying to sell people memberships to "his" endeavor. He now WANTS members to justify the continued existence of his site and PROVE that he is right. The thing is that if a member showed up who was as relentlessly disrespectful and insulting as he was on other boards then I have no doubt that he would ban or censor that member. Of course he will say that he wouldn't do such a thing but in fact he did censor folks on the Inside Pool forum and if he hasn't done so on his current one he would if he felt like it.

Jim is a collector and knows a lot about cues. I guess if I were a cuemaker then I might be concerned with being on Jim's "good side". Jim does have a good side and can actually be a cool guy to be around. His character is dry and sarcastic. It's how he acts when he is not in agreement with someone and is on OTHER PEOPLE'S FORUMS that is the problem.

Now that he has his own place his tone has definitely changed. Here he was an antagonist. There he is a content provider and so is much less apt to be an asshole. A little less. He does dtill have a reputation to uphold.

The upside of all this is that he is doing some brilliant things to bring the insights of cuemakers and other notable people in our industry to the forefront. If getting banned on AZ and not being allowed to be a jerk here inspired him to become a provider of great content then it's all good.

AZ would do well to copy some of the things Jimbo has pioneered. I like his Ask the Cuemaker series. I am quite sure that those sorts of Question and Answer sessions would be great for AZ. But that is up to the ownership here. It would probably be the last thing that they want to do to emulate anything Jim is doing. To me it's all about putting up good content and it's in the best interest of pool fans everywhere to read good content when they show up at any pool forum.

What part of what I wrote isn't true?

We haven't had a good old...Bring back Jimbo thread in a while. Maybe it's what we need to extinguish the KV flame.

Well said.

Why are you here then? If AZ is "so bad" then why do you continue to post here?

I have been here as long as any of you and was on RSB (rec.sport.billiard) before that.

I KNOW how it is on an unmoderated forum. Yes there is some amount of politics that goes on here. But for the most part people who get banned here have crossed the line. In fact a lot of people get away with far more than they should be allowed to and they know it.

If you think that AZ has "slipped" so much then perhaps you shouldn't be here. Yet you are still here and never waste an opportunity to shill for Jim.

Just because YOU think that you and the folks at Jim's site are superior to those who post here dos not make it so. Y'all are a clique just like any other clique, nothing more nothing less. You are a bunch of like minded people who like hanging out with each other. You aren't any smarter or wittier or more knowledgeable than the folks here or the ones on any other pool message board. But if it makes you feel better to think so and say so then go ahead. You won't get banned here for saying it.

John Barton, then John Collins, lost a grudge match against Jim. Basically, Jim called John out on his frequent posts saying his cases were better than Jack Justis'. The two agreed to a match up - can't remember the details, but payment was as follows: loser had to put a certain tag line in their signature on RSB. John lost, and the tag line he was supposed to put had something to do with Justis cases being better than Instroke. John weaseled out on the bet, in the fact that he did what he was supposed to, but reworded it and used super-small font. You can bet if Jimbo lost, he would have paid up right.

John was a different guy back then, but DO take what he says regarding Jim with a grain of salt, because there is a past between the two.

I thought he was banned after his argument with Varney.

I still don't know what really transpired at the Jimbo section and how he lost it but, the regulars there like me left.
Jimbo was no longer at the helm, so we left.

I don't think JimBo was banned from AZB. I believe that rather than bend to the powers that be, he simply left of his own accord and 'could' come back and post here if he chose to.
