What is "jimbos army" ?

BRIAN, YOU AND I HAVEN'T HAD ANY ISSUES, BUT THIS HAS ME CONFUSED.....

SO, AZ WAS GOOD BEFORE THE INFLUX OF PEOPLE LIKE JIMBO??

I'LL AGREE, HE'S NOT A TIGHT ASS, BUT THE SECOND PART OF YOUR STATEMENT ABOUT NOT LIKEING DIFFERING OPINIONS, DESCRIBES JIMBO PERFECTLY...... HE'S NEVER BEEN WRONG IN HIS LIFE. EVEN FACE TO FACE, WITH THE FACTS SHOWN/TOLD TO HIM, HE STILL WON'T ADMIT HE'S WRONG.

P.S. IF YOU DON'T LIKE "THIS" PLACE, WHY ARE YOU STILL POSTING HERE?

Marcus-

The thing is, JimBo often expressed his opinion. And like so many others, it was met with warnings, temporary bans, removed posts, and deleted threads.

Sure, Jim disagrees with a lot of people. Sure Jim is opinionated. No one (not even Jim) would dispute that. But there was a time when that was allowed here. After a while, opinions that weren't popular were met with resistence. People whined and complained to the mods. Posts and threads were removed when people were doing what they had done, and had every right to do, all along: they were expressing their opinions.

You know me Marcus. I'm opinionated as hell. But when you come to an open forum, you should be allowed to share those opinions without be labeled a trouble-maker; without receiving warnings; without your opinions being deleted. And that happened here. A lot! It still does (though not as much as it used to). I'll admit Dave Wilson and Mike Howerton have relaxed with the thread and post deleting but nowadays, you'd be hard pressed to offer a critique of anything without getting a barrage of people *****ing that you're saying something negative.

I had an interaction with Kevin Varney. I gave his cue a mediocre review. Not bad. Not great. I was blasted for it. I had (or was supposed to have) a transaction with Eric Crisp. I gave my review of that. Again I was blasted. Why? Because I didn't have positive things to say.

So why do I still post here? Three reasons:

1) Because every now and then I see something that I may want to buy and this is a decent place to do that.

2) Because every now and then I have something to sell and, again, this is a decent place to do that.

3) Because sometimes, there are some decent threads on here. And I like to read people's input and add my own. But that doesn't mean we all HAVE to agree all the time.

Sometimes, I see people posting bull-sh*t on here and I for one, have no problem (and every right) calling them out on it! Its not always harmful. Sometimes, its helpful. I mean, c'mon!!! If people didn't express their HONEST opinions, we might have a bunch of people on this site who actually believe that Kevin Varney makes products for the best players in the world and that Shorty is a certified cue expert!!! LOL.

Just because this place has slipped over the years, doesn't mean that its the worst place online. There is still good content here. And good posters.

Blackjack, Tate, yourself, and a slew of others. But there has also been a surge in the number of half-wits. You've been here for a few years Marcus. You HAVE to admit that much!

FIRST....
I ENJOY YOUR POSTS, YOU'RE ONE OF THE BETTER POSTERS HERE ON AZ, AND I APPRECIATE THAT YOU SPEAK YOUR MIND. OIN MOST SUBJECTS, WE ACTUALLY AGREE......

SECOND....
I WON'T ARGUE THE INFLUX OF HALF WITS AND "NUT HANGERS", BUT THAT'S THE WAY LIFE/THE WORLD IS. WE'RE SURROUNDED BY UNEDUCATED, OPINIONATED PEOPLE. AZ IS A VERY TRUE REFLECTION ON SOCIETY AND THE COUNTRY WE LIVE IN.

I'VE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH SPEAKING MY MIND EITHER. I SAY WHAT I THINK, ABOUT ANY SUBJECT THAT COMES UP. I'VE NEVER SUGAR COATED THE THINGS I'VE SAID OR THE POINTS I'VE MADE. I DO TRY AND BE NON-OFFENSIVE THOUGH. AND THAT'S WHERE JIMBO AND OTHERS STRUGGLE.

I CAN MAKE A VALID POINT, AND SUBSTANTIATE MY ARGUMENT, WITHOUT TEARING THE OTHER GUY OR HIS OPINION DOWN. IT TAKES MORE WORK AND THOUGHT TO DEBATE MY WAY, BUT IT'S WORTH IT A,D IT PROVIDES BETTER ANSWERS/INFORMATION FOR THE PEOLE READING.

JIMBO WASN'T BANNED FOR HIS OPINIONS, HE WAS BANNED FOR HIS LACK OF TACT. IF HE SPOKE TO PEOPLE IN PERSON, IN THE SAME MANNER IN WHICH HE POSTS, MOST OF HIS CONVERSATIONS WOULD END VIOLENTLY.

I DON'T KNOW JIM PERSONALLY, NOR DO I CARE TO, BUT IT'S HIS LACK OF TACT, NOT LACK OF INFORMATION THAT GETS HIM IN TROUBLE.

YOU CAN TELL ME THAT "HE JUST STANDS FOR WHAT HE BELIEVES IN", BUT THAT'S A LINE OF BS. I STAND FOR WHAT I BELIEVE IN, BUT I DON'T ATTACK AND TEAR APART PEOPLE FOR NOT AGREEING WITH ME.

GHANDI HAD SOME OF THE STRONGEST VIEWS AND OPINIONS EVER, AND HE NEVER HAD TO TEAR ANY ONE DOWN TO MAKE A POINT.

MARCUS <----KNOWS THE GHANDI THING MAY HAVE BEEN OVER THE TOP.

Well, let's see John. Here's what you wrote:

Jimbo's Army is the latest incarnation of a group of people who like to hang out with Jim Brennan. Jim Brennan is a pool newsgroup veteran who is famous for has scathing statements to people he does not agree with. He is famous for going the extra mile to offend and calls it fun.

He was kicked off of AZB because he went too far for the moderators here. So he went to Inside Pool and got a forum section there named "Jimbo".

Jimbo and myself have had very public and bitter disagreements online. On April 1st this year I "took over" Jimbo's section of Inside Pool's forum for a day. After that a new website called Jimbo's Army was created where it's "under their control".

Jimbo's Army refers to the group of people who support him to the point that they declare themselves "soldiers" in the "army". Presumably to fight the "ignorance" and "censorship" at AZB which they call nAZi.

This is where the issue of free speech comes up. I can however promise that if someone were to attack a cuemaker or other high profile visitor to Jimbo's Army in the same manner that Jimbo himself has attacked people over the years that he would in fact censor that person from doing so.

Basically Jimbo's Army is a splinter group of folks who started on other message boards and who prefer to hang out with each other. There are a host of other issues that they have but primarily it's with the censorship and politics that some feel are part of AZB.

And Jimbo's Army folks feel that they are far superior to the average AZB poster. They feel that AZB posters are on average quite idiotic and inane and that the quality of conversation here is far beneath the intellectual and intellegence level of their postings. This is quite evidenced in their negative comments concerning AZB.
Interstingly enough though a lot of their content is taken from AZB when their members scour AZ and repost the content

John-

Above I have highlighted sections of your orinigal post. Everything in read is true. Everything in blue is both fabricated and assinine as well as rooted in your personal grudge with Jim.

Grow up man. Even if your cases were on par with Jack Justis' (which they most certainly are not), I would buy from Jack over you any day. He's a class act who carries himself like an adult. Not a bratty little five year old.

What does this have to do with my cases? Try to stay on topic.

Why did Jim leave AZ then?

The fact that I wrote "presumably" indicates that is is my OPINION of the tenor at Jimbo Army. I don't think I am the only person who holds this opinion so there is perhaps some merit to it.

If you don't think Jim will ban or censor someone who attacks another member, and especially a "high value" member, using the same type of behavior and language that he has in the past then you are foolish in my opinion. He already banned people at the Jimbo section of Inside Pool after he said that no one would be banned. You see Brian it's a bit different when you are the one in charge. Then you begin to see how hurtful to the group someone like Jim can be.

As for the last paragrapgh I think it's apparent that many people there feel that they are intellectually superior to most of the folks at AZB. The make comments of this sort constantly and it's not hard to see it by reading through a few pages of postings there. As Steve pointed out not everyone there feels that way. That is true but the tenor of a lot of the more vocal posters is in fact that way and it is encouraged by Jimbo.

As for content, you will find plenty of posts there that refer people to posts at AZB. You find plenty of posts that refer to news or content that was first posted here. It is quite obvious that Jimbo Army is not yet the center of the online pool world and still orbits AZB a lot. Again, this is my observation based on the posting content that I see at Jim's site. You don't have to like my observation but as always on these forums, the posting history is there for all to see.

Personally I think it degrades from what could otherwise be a great place. The constant references to AZ and Inside Pool are annoying and a turn-off. I find it hilarious that when Jimbo had a section at Inside Pool then JR Calvert could do no wrong and Inside Pool was the greatest show on Earth and when he was slighted by the April Fool's joke suddenly his "army" revolted and JR was demonized and is now ridiculed. I think General Jimbo ought to command his soldiers to cease and desist all references to other forums and go out and get great content of their own.

Nothing I wrote here is "rooted" in my grudge with Jim. I have no grudge anymore with Jim. What you don't know, or you might, who knows, is that Jim and I have had many conversations through email. I understand him. I don't agree with him and his methods but I don't hate him. He is going his own way and that's cool with me. As long as he doesn't meddle in my business with his viciousness then we are all good.

My agenda for being here is the same as it always has been on these pool forums. To discuss pool and help where I can and hopefully sell some products. I think most would agree that I am not your typical kiss-ass salesperson though as I am also quick to voice my opinion if I think someone is wrong. That has led to a lot of people, yourself included, to make comments that are uncalled for in the discussions. When you can't win on logic then you and Jim resort to vile personal attacks and that is the sort of thing that won't fly here. So don't try to bring up things like Jack Justis to muddy the water. You will get nowhere with that line of attack. Jack's cases are awesome. So are mine. We both have plenty of business. I don't need or want yours. You know exactly what my point was then and always has been concerning cases. Neither you nor Jim has ever been able to defeat that point so you resort to base insults.

And yeah, I have acted like a bratty five year old in the past. Not proud of it but I did. However that doesn't change the fact that I was right most of the time when it comes to the actual topic that was the center of the discussion. And when I have been wrong I have admitted it and changed my opinion. Try and find one post where Jim Brennan ever did that.

By the way, ignorance is defeated by sharing of knowledge. Each and every one of you was at some point an ignorant newbie on some level. When someone posts something here that is not correct then they are corrected and everyone who did not know the correct answer is that much smarter afterwards.

If you have a bunch of people who already "know it all" hanging out with each other then they are doing nothing to benefit those who don't know it all. That's fine if you want to be in with a particular crowd.

I don't. I prefer to share my knowledge with those who need it rather than with those who don't. Now those who "know it all" probably think that people like me prefer to deal with those who aren't as informed so that I can bullshit them. Well, those that know me know that I invite anyone to do their homework and provide the directions on how to do that. I am quite vocal about what I think is right and what I think is not. And I ALWAYS welcome correction so that I can become a smarter person.

So I am glad to see AZB filled up with people who are eager to learn.

FWIW...

I used to be a mainstay of this forum. I started lurking here in 2001 and eventually joined. I've been a member of other forums too, including Jimbo's, so I'll tell ya's how I see it-

I've had it with AZB. I didn't make some "goodbye cruel world thread", I just stopped contributing to the forum. While I miss some (many) of the posters here, there are many I can do without. The thing that drove me out was the moderation. I don't care for Wilson's style. Sorry. I know that some might accuse me of having sour grapes cuz I got banned in the past for busting on some of the wackier posters, (I find it ironic that HE eventually was banned):

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showpost.php?p=444067&postcount=10

I went to the Inside Poolmag.com site where JimBo set up shop. IT was an AZB alternative and there was a decent group of posters there. The website had good exposure and things were going well. That is, until 4/1/08 of this year. On 4/1, JR Calvert and John Barton-Collins-Barton-(insert name here) decided to play an April Fools Joke and replaced JimBo with JBCB as the forum mod. Ordinarily, I have a sense of humor, but like all jokes, it can go too far. And it did. Had JBCB been a lil more subtle nad not so vindictive, it might have went over well. It didnt go over well. The thing that brought on this "joke" was paybacks over a misunderstanding at a Valley Forge party between JR Calvert and JimBo. The bottom line is that JimBo and JR got into a pissing match of egos and JimBo left to start his JimBo Army thing.

I'm friends with JimBo. I visit his site, but visit other sites too. Personally, I feel the JimBo Army site is a lil too much like a hero worship site and a more generic Pool forum/name might make it more inviting to the general public, rather than a site that revolves around one person, more or less. Regardless, I'm still friends with Jim, even though I'm not crazy about being labeled as part of "us vs. them".

So, there ya have it. Class dismissed.

LOL, the site revolves around the shared hatred of AZ, nothing more, nothing less. Now take your lame ass excuses for why you don't like AZ back to the limp ho army.

While I will give you there is some negative AZB comments, don't think that goes for everyone. I post there because I like pool forums, plain and simple. Read there because there is no moderation to kill off posts that may be interesting. Here sometimes post disappear when some gets their feelings hurt, understand that, and don't have a problem with moderation on here.

Its just a change of pace, different group of ideas at times. Anyone is welcome there, though there is no one there to protect you from others.

There was NO Vindictiveness - NONE. Everything was lighthearted and playful. There was not one tiny ounce of vindictiveness in anything I posted on that day. It's all there. It was a fun prank, nothing more and nothing less. However those without a sense of humor took their ball and went to another playground. Now, they vilify the person who gave them the forum in the first place.

And, as always, it's all on the record.

Its halfwits like yourself who think they are superior to others in every way while, in actuality, you don't know jack or sh!t.

See? Broad generalizations go bothways!!!

We miss you Eric, you were always one of the better posters. You can still post at Jimbo's without being a worshipper of Jim. If people perceive those of us that participate there as such, that is their problem. In my mind, the Jimbo Army thing is just kind of a facetious joke. We participate in that site for it's freedom of expression, no different then when it was the Jimbo forum on IP. I doubt very much anybody including Jim is harboring ill will towards JR, if the are, sobeit. The Jimbo forum is just "the road less travelled". It could use a poster of your calibre once more.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I?
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference."
