I noticed some of the ferrules i get, look like this. About 1/4 of the ferrule is fine, but the rest looks like this. It won't come out either. Almost like it was made this way. Any help would be great.

Ferrule Issue

Some ferrule materials are more porous than others. If probably just picked up some chalk dust. Unfortunately there's not a lot that can be done with it after the fact.

One more question. I tried to make my pic smaller, but can't figure out how to resize it. It is saved in "my pics" on the computer, but it wont let me resize it for the internet. I dont wont to change the camera set up. There has to be a way to resize it.

Chip,
Go to Photobucket and make an account. When you upload a pic it will give you the option of resizing it and in most cases it will do it automatically. From there you can hot link any pic from there to here.

I don't know about resizing the picture, but you could give some tips on how to take a picture that clear. I am serious how do you get such a good picture?

Try sanding it with 220 grit while spinning on the lathe and blow it with very high pressure air while sanding it. Then seal it with super glue to fill up the pores. If that won't get it out replace the ferrule.

One way to resize pictures without photobucket is to use Microsoft Paint. If using Windows XP go to Start>All Programs>Accessories>Paint. Open the picture you wish to resize. Under the Image menu choose Stretch/Skew. Put the desired percentage you wish to resize the picture in both the horizontal and vertical boxes. Hit okay, and save. Viola!

If you wish to resize it to a specific resolution or size, you can use the Attributes option under the Image menu. There you can specify the width and height in pixels, Cm, or Inches.

There are TONS of apps available to resize photos if you do a Google search. One of the better ones is the FastStone photo re-sizer. It's free, and you can download it here. I like it's ability to apply changes to several images at one time.

Regarding how to take a super close-up picture like that, you need to use your camera's macro mode and be less than 6" from the subject. It works well for capturing fine detail, but not all cameras have this mode.

Sometimes a shop vac helps pull the stuff out too if you restrict the hose down enough. I had a little rubber adapter I use to use on the end of the hose, that seemed to help.

I often tell people when I see this that if they want the spots out then prepare to have a new ferrule installed, because sometimes they come out with minimal sanding, but other times you can sand the ferrule away trying to get them out, and replacing the ferrule may be the option left. When I install a ferrule type that I know to be porous, then I make sure to seal It very well right out of the gate to try and help prevent this from happening. or to at least make It easier to clean up later on.

microsoft office 2003 (and i think 2007 too) comes with a program called microsoft office picture manager. you can access it by start -> all programs -> ms office -> ms office tools. once the picture is open in that program, click the button labled edit pictures, and that will bring up a menu on the right of the screen that will have an option to resize.

office 2000 had one similar called microsoft photo editor thats roughly about the same.

Most seal it with glue before cutting and reseal it first before sanding. I try not to use wetdry sandpaper because it's black and I felt it was leaving particles in the porous holes , I also try not to generate any heat by doing light sanding. It's not surefire way but its been cuting back on contaminates alot.
