What is the difference between Hercek and Rauenzahn full spliced cue?

Inlays and construction. Joel does better inlay work and Jerry can construct a double full splice butterfly design that only a few in the world could do.. I got to look at it and I believe it'll be on here soon. When it is, why don't some of the experts on here show it to there favorite cue maker and ask them if they could reproduce it.

I would certainly like to see the 3k difference I have see many Rs cues and IMHO his full splice work is as good as anybody's he just does not have the name that's the only difference I see

Go to jerry's website and paste some of the photos on here on the cues he built... include the "blue one" as well. I'm sure he's a great cuemaker, but not everyone has that "eye" to design a cue with the right sizes, colors, inlays, etc.... being a craftsman does not necessarily make you an artist.

Joel happens to be both, and that really sets him apart from the rest.. than you throw in his ability to build perfect full splice cues and his exacting attention to detail, and now you know why he has a 10 year waiting list....they are collector worthy pieces or art...

Nobody gets this lucky.. He had to earn it....

RJ trying to get bumped up the list

(lemme know if it works)

Ditto

I cant speak for Jerry R but, Joel is one of the most proffessional cuemakers that I have dealt with, his quality is beyond all expectations, is personal and nice and over delivers on his commitments. Old school meets new.

That is exactly how I feel.I can not say anything abt. Jerry R. Since I have not dealt with him or owned any of his cues but I can speak for Joel. This may just be my opinion but Joel is the most professional cue maker I have dealt with , and he is not satisfied until everything is perfect and the customer is happy.I can go on and on but do not want to sound negative about other cue makers since there are many good ones out there.Joel did learn from Burton Spain but then took that knowledge to the next level. He is constantly striving to improve his cues and his skills.

Comparing these to builders, and for that matter most top builders is pointless. Value, wait times, etc, are basically pointless. Just because one has a long list, or can't work as fast means nothing. Price means NOTHING, ask some folks who dropped some fairly serious coin on a Zinzola lately...

At the end of the day, it's all preference. My Roman Alexander cue is NOT for sale. If I was offered $20k for it, I would turn it down, and not think twice. It plays perfect for what I like, it's beautiful to ME, and it was completed the same day my son was born. To me there is no other cue in the world better, even my new one. It's retired now, and will be waiting for my son when he gets older.

^^^All of the above is well and good, but it will mean almost NOTHING to 90% of the people that read it. Does it means that it's better than any BB, Herceck, Gina, Searing etc? does it means it's not as nice as them? NO. It's all about the guy you ask.

The long and short of it is this. I have seen Hercecks I would take over -R-'s and vice versa. There is really no good way to compare them. They are both masters in their own right, and the only thing you can compare are individual aspects, which will very from cue to cue. Price, playability, execution, wait times, etc. No need to make an argument about which is better. I'd lay $100 that if you ask either of the builders about the other, you will get the same answer... "Yea, I know him. He builds a very nice cue." And that's about it....

All the best,

Justin

(lemme know if it works)

lol.. nope, it has never worked... but that's fine. I don't give many folks credit, except the ones that deserve it.... just like his old school style, but at the same time, can do a more modern cue with the old school designs.....

Jerry, seems like a very good cue maker...and I've heard nothing bad about him... kinda like comparing a Porsche to an Acura... both fine cars, and both very well made. but one just has a certain style about them that the other can not duplicate... does not mean one is better than the other, but Acura is NOT going to win any design awards no matter how good they make their cars.....

I'ts not like Joel is by himself,,, there are others as good or better in design, in some folks opinions.... I really appreciate the designs of a black boar... man, some incredible work :).

Both great work, sure, but take one of each in the exact same style to any of the big cue shows and put 'em up for sale. You'll see the difference. It may not be quite 3, but it's definitely 2.

Take those 2 cues and reverse the name and you get the same result

Well actually: http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2010/04/12/472758.html

Acura ZDX (Design Breakthrough Award) for interiors.

Go figure..

Sure, and if you put an Acura nameplate on the Porsche, folks won't ever know the difference ???

An Acura? That car reference garbage is getting tired. He "owns" that classic style of cue making. With all the "insiders" here why doesn't somebody talk to some cue makers and see if they can do some of the stuff he can do? A lot of people were mad that he got nominated. You don't even get nominated unless your bad ass. Preserving that vintage style of cue making with the level of quality he has, I'll take that over a Batman cue any day.

Then stop reading my posts, get in your Acura and drive away.;) I think JR's a great cue maker too, don't really see the problem.. so don't get your panties in a bind...

But it seems folks prefer certain styles/designs over others.....not my fault that most folks are willing to wait 10 years for a hercek.... gotta be a reason, no ?
