What is the Most Ill-Conceived Pool Product You Have Ever Come Across?

How about those, little piece of square cloth you put undernearth the cueball when you break?! I can't figure that thing out. Is there a name for that? Anybody here uses that thing? I'm a newbie at pool, pls excuse my ignorance.

I use one on my home table and will use them at the pool hall when they are provided. The break patch is used because Simonis (and similar) cloth will develop a hole if you break from the same spot enough times. Found that out the hard way. LOL.

I've seen someone place the cue ball in one of those holes and break from there at the pool hall. It made the cue ball jump higher than normal, barely skim the top of the rack, and fly off the table at a dangerous speed.

"L" shaped or round pool table

............................................... WHY WOULD THEY DO SUCH A THING!

Heretics...

I worked in more than a few pool rooms....I've seen all kinds o things...

>jump cues.....we thought....were a fad, but like your inlaws during the holidays, they NEVER get the hint to GO AWAY!

>The apron was a fad.....but had its reasons.

>9ball racks....what the hell....rack guys gotta try to expand their product line.

>cue extensions....unless you are Johnny Holmes, or Johnny Archer....they are strange!

>Sardo racks are actually pretty cool....mine works great!

>pocket liners/tighteners?....the spring loaded thingys.....I have NEVER seen them work well!

>"8ball" 80's leather multi color jackets....my god they were LAME!,,,,unless you were a Madonna dancer, or liked Millyvanilly!....HA!

>....lemme think some more....I know there are a few I missed!

Haha! I always think of David Puddy from Seinfeld. "You got a question? Ask the 8-ball!" lmao

You really don't like this?

I can't help thinking of the variety of new kicks and banks that would become available. And can you imagine playing one pocket on this table? (Once you figure out which two pockets to use)

The possibilities are endless....

On topic, black chalk is the worst thing ever. It makes your table look like a 4 year old went after it with a crayon.

the answer to this question is quite simply...

The entire Cuetec line of products.

i believe someone makes them for handicapped people.....not sure who though

it was supposed to quote the quesion about tom rossmans spring loaded cue

oh and locks on a cue case are great because the wont let u bring a cue as a carryon at the airport

It's kind of goofy but, old timers might remember the pool apron! Made from felt with pockets in front to hold the chalk and tip tapper etc. Designed to keep your trousers clean when you lean across the table. Eliminates that chalk like across the upper leg area. Still have one somewhere around here.

You mean these? We used to wear them in league play in the late 70's. I had them made for our team. Got a lot of resistence to wear them.

Cane cue!!

My choice is the cane cue stick. A hallow cue? WTF!
I have one but it needs a screw on tip. I can't bring myself to go buy a screw on tip for some reason.

I have a real fondness for the cane cue. I was in a bar one night doing a little gambling on a challenge table. Three guys I had a little difficulty with in the past came in and were warming up for round two. At the same time a couple dozen guys were upset with a medium sized fellow, William, over somebody's ex-wife.

Next thing I know William and I have our backs to a stage with a couple dozen guys facing off against us. A couple minor details, I had snatched one of those walking cane cues from a nearby table, the old canes that had almost a point on the joint end, and William was a recently retired pro boxer from Houston.

With the stick held chest high in both hands I was going to do some wicked work on ribs and gizzards and nobody wanted to be the first to tackle William. It got funny after a few minutes with the people in the back of the crowd pushing forward and the ones in the front starting to lean backwards to not get pushed into that cane with the big brass ball and point or William!

Always had a real warm feeling for those walking cane cues after that.

8-Ball soap on a rope.

Friend got one as a pool gift one year.

Now that's just funny! I would love to find this as a gag gift. Tried googling it but came up with nothing. Anybody seen this for sale anywhere?

I saw a cue at walmart once that had a plastic fish in some kind of blue liquid as a butt cap... I think it was the inspiration for the liquid wick LOL

I would buy that and put a nice tip and ferrule on there. It would be the sneakiest pete ever.

Guess you can't buy them anymore. Seems that Spencer's or a place like that had them. You could of course make one for a gag gift. They are easy to make. See

I would like to have a cane cue. I think they look cool and would be kinds spiffy walking in a pool hall with one. Talk about Sneaky Pete -- there ya go.
