What is the most important thing you need to have in order to succeed?

You could have an experiance, knowledge, will etc. but when you lose
CONFIDENCE everything else goes out the window. I have seen world
champions make one mistake and fold like a deck of cards. The funny
thing is that it always starts with a one mistake. It may not happen
every time cause they are more seasoned but they are not immune to it.

I honestly don't think there is a quick way to recover from it. Some of you
might say that you've seen pros make mistake and this didn't change their
performance. I say yes, they made mistakes but didn't lose a confidence.
Once you lose it, you basically done, at least for certain period of time.

Let see what enybody else think about this:confused:

I think the most important things to have in competitive pool are:

1) A Short Memory - What is in the past is in the past... Don't let your chance for redemption pass you by because you were sulking about a recent failure...

2) Perspective - You WILL shoot bad shots and You WILL lose games and matches... Are you going to let those failures define who you are going to be in the future...??

3) A Sense of Humor - Pool is a funny game with funny situations and funny people... Even when you are losing try and see the humor in everything... If you take yourself and the game too seriously you are destined to find disappointment...

These three tenants have served me well for over 20 years...

How short is short. Thirty minutes is very short time but in that time you could lose
a set. Then again, everyone is different, it might take longer to recooperate. By the
way, I do agree with you on these three things you've mentioned. Espacially a sense
of humor.

The ability to Focus is ver important 110%.
It is, but you could lose some of it and continue to play well. Once you lose a confidence
then everything becomes harder and harder. You could be focused 100% but without
a confidence focus wouldn't mean too much.

I think you need the following:

Loads of money or no desire to have money
No kids
No wife or girlfriend
A place to play for free
A backer if you don't have money.

I could be pro with the above.

quik money

In California , the quick way to make a half a million dollars is to move there with a whole million.

"Some people think they are concentrating when they're merely worrying"

talent, without a doubt. I've seen talent make up for shaky shooting. I've seen players win games with so much doubt in their veins.. but their own natural innate ability to make the shots needed made up for all else.

I think focus and concentration are definately #1. Where does confidence come from? I've seen many players miss shots that they never should miss but it happens because of a distraction or lack of focus. That is what separates the top players from the rest of us. JMHO

When I say short I mean SHORT... As in "Huh, I just missed that ball...?? I don't remember that!"

Realistically I think you can chastise (or whatever) yourself for as long as it takes you to get back to the table...

But when you get up off your butt you had better have forgotten whatever it was that put you down on it in the first place...

I have thought about this for a bit...I think the most important thing is that you have to care. If you don't care the balls stop falling...You must care.

Oh yeah and luck.

As with anything else I will say it is drive. You must have the drive to keep plugging away at it when faced with failure. This is what separates the winners from the losers. You will also need some talent, but when you add in the "do or die trying" attitude with it you will find a winning combination.

Honestly u need JoeW in your life an allso u need to learn to forgive an forget when u miss a shot laugh about it an forget it like it never happen clear your mind of everything u get another shot play smart don.t be all pissed off an think about stuff while shooting its just a game

everyone needs to work on that lil part in ur head called mental Toughness subconscious conscious an learn to forget about missing that stupid shot if u can.t then your beating your self along with him beating u
