what is the tightest pocket specs that can be used on a diamond or brunswick?

what is the tightest pocket specs that can be used to play all games an not lose cue ball movement {playing cue postion) an still pocket the ball? thanks for your time professor

I would say 4 inches as teh smallest. Why would you want them any smaller than 4 inches?? Why not play straight rail or 3 cushion :lol:
 
The regular pocket is 2.25, the General pocket rules is written, Bruns had few different pocket sizes.

2005 world cup, pocket sizes was 1.9-1.8, cant remember edxact.

In Taiwan, play on tide pocket is very normal, when I was a player, I was training on 1.2 balls-pocket.
 
It's not only the tightness, but how deep the pockets are, and how the rails are cut.
 
So are you measuring the space left on boht sides f othe ball when its in the middle of the jaws??
 
A pool ball is 2 1/4" in diameter, not 2 1/8".

I think 4 1/4" is the tightest that plays well for all games. Any tighter and it's no good for straight pool. If you get much looser it doesn't play well for one hole. This is for a Gold Crown.

For Diamond tables with the Pro Cut pockets, because of the deep shelf, I'd say 4 1/2", which I believe is standard for those tables.
 
A real tight gold crown is 4". I think I heard Johnny Archers personal table is 3 and 3/4"
 
Additional information, I mean 2.25 is two ball and 1/4 ball, ok

1.2 is one ball and 1/5 ball, ok.

i heard a little different 4 1/4, but seriously 4" is the lowest you want to get, or else no game is going to be the same, my table is cut to 4 1/4 and when ball is sitting on the rail to be cut in, the pocket is only 3/4" wider than the ball from that angle. Some one mentioned One Pocket, if the pockets are TOO tight then you end up just like when the pockets are too big, you can't dig balls out the pocket.

IMO 4 1/4 is ok for all games. Any tighter then it becomes just a practice table.
 
My GC I pockets are 4" and play all games on it.

I had an 8 footer with 4" pockets. With 4" pockets the facings are almost non existent. I didn't really care for it. When you cut down the rail you have basically zero margin for error.

One of my tables now is a 9 footer with a 4 1/4" pockets. It used to be shimmed to 4 1/4" but then I had the rubber extended. It plays much tougher now than when it had about 5/8" of shim on each side. I would recommend 4 1/4" with the rubber extended. It plays tough and keeps you honest but doesn't take away too many of your shots.
