What is the wait??

Hey all !

I just placed an order for a new John Showman cue. He seemed like a super guy and I am impressed with his work. I asked several cuemakers for price and delivery on a cue (all had the same spec). I really didnt see much difference on prices. He requested a 25% deposit with the remainder upon delivery. I said that was fine, whats the delivery? 5 years. I said no problem and I am sending him out a check.

This got me thinking. I understand that Barry isnt taking orders.

Southwest, I heard the wait is 10 years. But this is a little like bullshit, because they dont require a deposit, so you just have a name on list. Hell, I'm on the waiting list and have never been out there.

Does anyone else have a long wait?

Ken

7 years on a SW. No deposit

5 years on a Hercek. No deposit

both were placed 2 years ago so the wait is now 5 and 3.

6 months on a Gina that I ordered and put a deposit on.

I think that no deposit is required because of the long waiting list and they know that they will be able to sell any cue they make. Also a deposit is not required until your order comes up.

Agreed. John is a great guy.

For any cuemaker, I assume the deposit is paid once work is ready to commence.

Chris -

It was my understanding that the deposit got me on the waiting list.

Not when the work would begin. I am sending out the check next week.

Pretty soon, you will have to order a custom cue in your kids name, as it will automatically go to the next generation when completed.
A ten year waiting list. Right. What if he decides to retire after nine years. You're screwed.
And then you have to start on someone elses twenty year list.
That doesn't leave you with much time to actually play with your new cue.
Hey, what if you don't have a cue and can't play until your new cue arrives.
Damn, better take up a new hobby in the meantime.

Just funnin' kids

I think they make you wait so long so you have enough time to really decide on the design and specs. Plus the most important thing is to start saving to pay for it. Sock away $1 per day and after 7 years you would have $2557 if you count 2 leap years and no divorces. Double the amount and you would have over $5000 that would provide a decent cue by any maker.

Plus by that time you may decide that the cue you have is really good enough and just take the money and blow it.

Joel told me at the time that I was put on his list that is was approximately 5 years. He said that it may be shorter because there are a lot of no shows due to people moving, changing phone numbers and etc and he cannot get in touch with them. Plus many back out or just change their mind when it comes to sending in the deposit.
