If you want some stories, here's one for you. Around 2009 I was working on some networks for NMCI (Navy and Marine Corps Intranet). I was traveling all over the country and setting up the little stand alone networks. For instance, that's how I got to go to Fargo and play (had a tuna fish sandwich next to a pool hall and got massive food poisoning).
Well before I flew to Fargo, I was in Knoxville. I went to the local pool hall and was playing all day with one of the locals who's aunt owned the pool hall. We were messing around playing $1 a rack 9 ball on the barbox. Later on in the evening (this was back when I would typically play 10-15 hour sessions when I went to a pool hall), two road players came in on their way to the Johnny Archer classic down at MBC.
I recognized one of them (Hennessee) and knew what was coming. They talked the kid I was playing's older brother into some races to 7 giving him the 7 out. I knew that no one knew me at the time, so I went over to the ATM and got out a couple of hundred dollars and waited.
I don't remember if they played one set or two, but the older brother knew he was outmatched and quit, so I said, I'll play you the same way.
Now, the guy playing was the road partner, not Hennessee. He said I can't give you that, you're better than him, I'll give you the eight. I said, I've been breaking even with his little brother all day on the barbox and he's better than his little brother.
he said, ok, I'll give you the 7.
I said ok how about we make the race to 9 instead of 7, they both said no, let's keep it at 7 (that becomes important in a minute).
So I proceed to beat him 7 to 2, but he racks again and end up having to beat him to 9, lol. Final score 9-3.
he then says why don't you play my buddy here instead, referring to Hennessee, but he's not as good as me so you gotta play him even.
So, I did, and I won, like 9-4. They wanted to keep on playing, so I agreed to one more, but you have to understand that they were supposed to close by 2:00 and had been vacuuming for like two hours. We played one more and Hennessee got me hill hill and they wanted to KEEP on playing. I said, I've got to catch a flight in a few hours (really it wasn't for another day) but I wasn't going to make this poor family keep the place open any longer (it was already close to 5 am).
They said they'd be coming back by, and I said I'd be there (I wasn't going to be).
Oh yeah, I didn't go to fargo next. I went to the twin cities. Because I ended up losing the 100 bucks I was up from Knoxville playing Tinman two $50 dollar sets...But it was on his home turf, so he had the advantage.
Hey
@Tin man you remember that? LOL.
