What is your personal defination of a Custom Cue???

I would tell him that it's a BLACK BOAR

A guy see you at the stop light in a red car, and ask production or custom? You say it's a FERRARI, you don't say that it's a custom car, even if the seats where customized for your body... even if it's one of a kind

Maybe not the best course of action. When was the last time you heard of anyone being mugged for a Schon!?

So exactly what would the BB be? The Schon STL-11 is certainly a production model, but there's nothing production about a BB one off. If it was totally his idea, design & specs, then it's still a custom cue custom built by him to his specifications. It may not be custom fit to a buyer, but it's certainly still custom. Custom means it was built to fit somebody.....but there's no specification saying for whom it can be built for.

I agree with your notion, but there's no technicality to categorize your feelings. We have custom and we have production, nothing else. 99%+ of the cue world would consider the BB to be a custom. So it's essentially a custom cue by the commonly accepted idea of what a custom cue is.

You have the BB & are playing with it in a room, and some guy comes up to ask about the cue. He asks if it's custom or production. What would you tell him? Would you give him a lecture about how you felt it was neither & explain why, or would you simply say, "custom", so you could get back to playing your game?
Well No one in there right mind would ask that because everyone KNOWs that Black Boars are custom cues LOL.

In my opinion a custom cue is any cue made by a custom cue maker. Not a production cue company.

This is all I have to offer

The top cue is a 1985 Clay Etheridge Showcase Hustler,58 and 1/4 Inches,19 1/4 oz,with 1 and 1/8 in Hard Fibre Ferrules. Slim Taper Butt, shafts with a 15" drop,13 1/4mm Shaft size. Original shafts, most recent tips done by Chris(RuntheCentury) in Ft. Worth. This cue is retired as of 2009. Using a Pechauer as my break cue now.
Bottom cue is a Gary Medlin Gem Cue made in 1992-1993. My wife and I designed this cue. This cue is the only one of it's kind. Butt is Ebony, with Six Floating Ivory Arrows and Three Silver Bars with Silver Diamond Cut Tips on each end.Bushka Rings of Ivory and Ebony at Butt and Below Wrap. Calfskin Wrap. Birdseye Maple Forearm,Medium Dark Stain,Six Long Ebony Points with Spade Tips. Inside each point a long Silver Bar with Diamond cut point. Between the Ebony Points,a shorter Silver Bar with Diamond Cut point. Bushka Rings above the wrap and at the joint. Stainless Steel Szamboti Style Joint. Two Shafts with Ivory Ferrules. Original size was full 13 1/4mm Pro Taper. Each shaft has a Bushka Ring at the joint. Most Recent Tips by Gary Medlin. Joint Protectors of Maple, with Butt Joint Protector with Bushka Ring. The Silver used in this cue is not German Nickel Silver, but a grade of silver close to 925. Gary told me he had lots of difficulties working this silver due to the purity. The weight of the cue is about 20 1/4 oz. Both of these cues are true custom made. One plain and one a little bit fancier.

To me a custom cue is one that is built to a customers particular specifications. Types of wood used, colors of vaneers, inlay design and material, and sometimes demensions.
Schon, in my opinion is a production cue because of the standardization of their cue line. Black Boar, on the other hand, will create a high-end artistic cue in order to showcase the talent of the cuemaker. I never said BB was a production cue. I only meant it wasn't a custom cue in the true sense of the word.
If we disagree, then perhaps semantics is the culprit.

That's funny[as the crowd shouts:Jerry Jerry]..My ideal is specs you desired, tapper, butt weight, tip type etc,but most of all,you gotta have some sort of emblem burned or eched in.but not over your head..lol

thats what I was thinkin! ;)
