looks like some Coco i got from West Penn last year.they were selling it as fiery Coco and it is fiery.

Looks like bocote to me. Hard to tell from the pics but the wood appears more goldish than reddish..hence bocote.

cue

Hard to tell from the photos but bacote is my guess. Density of the wood would help in the comparison. Cocobola is much denser I believe. The grain is much finer and compact too.
Great looking piece of wood though.

turning quality

you could always take a small pass on it and see how the dust/flakes come off.

might give you a better idea, as coco and bocote slightly turn differently.

doubt it's EI rosewood, but turning it would definitely rule in/out EI rosewood, as it it flakes completely differently than coco/bocote.

eitherway, nice piece of wood.

If I'm not sure, I can almost always tell when drilling. Bocote would be my guess from the pics, possibly Ziricote but they all have a distinctive smell when drilling.

Other than mine has birds eyes....this piece looks very similar to a cue I have made of Louro Preto, which is a Brazilian bocote.

Kenny, when you cut it and take a huge sniff, does it smell like cinnamon and your throat start closing up?

That particular type of coco looks awesome with ebony, IMO. I have a few pieces & have been looking for more but it's tough to find. Literally looks like it's on fire, except the flames are black & the base color is yellow/orange.

forgot...

Hey masonh,

I forgot to lable on this piece and could not remember who I got it from:embarrassed2:. Now that you said and I remember I got from you when you were selling those woods:grin-square:. I need one more piece do you have anymore?
